Hunting Boots
Looking to get a new set of hunting/hiking boots, where is a good place in the Edmonton area to go try some quality boots.

MEC (though their corporate stance may not align with many in the hunting community)

Don’t bother with mec. I looked last fall. Most were like a running shoe designed for hiking paved trails while munching on hand fulls of granola and tofu.

MEC has good boots. Regardless of what I think of their politics they carry some of the best mountaineering boots this world has to offer.

Not sure about what they have online but when I was in the store in Edmonton last fall they had very few boots above your ankle.

Is it wrong that I just wear a good pair of work boots? If they're good enough for me to wear outside all day doing work and lots of walking, they're good enough for me to hunt in all day =x

Jim Bow's
If the store in Edmonton is the same as in Calgary, check out Jim Bow's as well. Lowa boots are incredible if your feet like them.

Ya that is the brand I am most interested in trying, Track and Trail carries them as well.
Anyone have any experience with Irish Setter, I loved Red Wing work boots so wonder if the fit is the same.

I was in Hunter Gord's yesterday, they've currently got a good sale on Lowa Boots.

If your not hunting in the mountains I would recommends some mucks .
Nothing worse I find than trying to clean up some lace up boats when you get home .
I have two sets of hunting boots and they stay at home now when i just go for a day trip . But i take them all along when i go for a week ,as the regular boots normally fill up with water when you thought that puddle was only 5 inches deep .

These will also be used a general all round boot and hiking boot. We do have property in the mountains so do spend a fair amount of time in that terrain.

How much are you looking to spend and when do you want them?
I have a few different pairs of Danner's. I lived and hiked for weeks at a time in them. Any 8" tactical boot would probably be good for what you need. Check out Battle Rattle or LOF.

Dollar value isn't much of a concern for the right pair boots. I am away at work for a couple more weeks and then was hoping to check out some stores in Edmonton. I have some okish boots now, just not very comfortable for longer days.

I stand by Danner. Hands down best boots I've ever owned. Mind you I was spending $500/pair. Check out their military section.

I have older pairs I meant to send away for repair in storage. This is my 3rd pair. I have a pair of Rivots somewhere too. Danner is one of the few companies that offer boot repair from manufacturer. Good for life.
Edit: the boot repair is only on the expensive pairs. I can't recall what their repair program is called. I'm sure you can find it on google.

Re: Danners, they do make a fantastic boot, I had a pair of Super Rain Forest when I was welding and fabbing. Replaced sole 3 times, upper was still really good. But! And it's a big BUT, they are heavy boots. For all day hiking, rough terrain, they'll wear you out. They are more then double the weight of my Zamberlans.

I picked up some Crispi”s from Marks on their Father’s Day sale and love them. Awesome quality.

While you’re at Track, try the Hanwag boots. Those have been my go to hiking/mountain boots for the last 30 years.

I have lower ankle hiking boots right now but I was leaning more towards an 8" or higher boot for more support.

I lucked into these boots 9 years ago - totally by mistake. I put these in my cart on Amazon to go back and look at them later. My wife then was looking for something else and inadvertently ordered the boots.
I am still wearing these boots today. They are amazingly lightweight (25 oz) and as comfortable as bedroom slippers.

Amazon is showing free shipping with Prime, which I have. We do about 300+ orders per year with Amazon Prime.

Hanwags for me. Just did a Tahr/Red Stag hunt in New Zealand this past winter. Lots of ups and downs, and the only part of me not sore was my feet.
