Default using other peoples tree stands

I was just wondering if you were out in the bush on public land and came across a good treestand location, would you climb up and use it hoping the owner doesnt come by?
Just asking because a buddy and I have some stands set up and when I was done with mine ,I left everything in the tree so my buddy could use it whenever.Anyways he went to use it one day and when he got there, the stand was still there but someone had taken all of my treesteps.
I have used stands in the past but have always left them the way I found them.I feel if you find one use it but dont steal anything as it is very frustrating

Well, let me put it this way. If you found my vehicle, parked in the bush, would you feel entitled to climb in, for a snooze? No different.

I would never use a stand I happen to stumble upon. Crown land, private, lease, no difference.

I always take out the last four or five pegs. Haven't had anybody in them yet.

In Sask. the stand must have the owners name and phone #. If you ask for permission then it is okay. If not it is rude to use some ones stand as that person has put time and effort into that area. Crown land or not its just plain rude and if I caught someone in my stand there would be words spoken

People that mess with stands and other peoples stuff just need a little hunter education if you Know what I mean. I carry light weight portable climbing sticks to and from my stands to help them stay there. So far I've been lucky.

Default Missing stand

Apparently a lot of people feel entitled to use stands they happen upon and take them with them when they leave, couple of years ago we had 2 stands disappear and we had the bottom 4 pegs removed plus stand chained to tree.Nothing worse than looking for your stand in the dark thinking you lost your marbles by not finding it,come daylight we found our bottom pegs where we had hidden them at the bottom but everything else was gone

I would not hesitate to use a stand I found (private, lease or public land). I would leave it exactly as I found it (except for the blood trail).

Bad etiquette ... that's ridiculous.

somebody found my stands this year and unscrewed the pegs and left them losely in the tree ... weird (guess they wanted to say Hi), although they cut my ropes .

I know take out the bottom 4 pegs.

if you build a permanet stand on public land , i dont see the problem. me and my brother have built lots. i dont care one way or the other. but if its a store bought one , i think id be ****ed. but then again, those ones are supposed to go home with you.

thats what i think. as long as they leave the tree stand the way thay found it(or better), it harms nobody if they use it.

The worst thing about someone else using your treestand is finding a gut pile under it.

I hate it when I see permanent stands on public land. Grinds my gears really bad cause I find it really disrespectful and plain old ugly.....let alone illegal.

Either way.....I dont use someone else's stand and I dont use someone else's property when I find it in the bush. It aint mine.....

I put a lot of time scouting and planning my stand sites. The is a lot of crown land out there so its not too hard to do things yourself. Respect the fact that someone else has put in a pile of work so don't be a leech and sit on their stand.

If my stand is still there, I was thinking of leaving it there and carry my climber in and wait to see if this person shows up next season, any suggestions

Default stands

my question is why do ppl drive or walk up to a stand
give the guy haha me a break dont come 100 ft then turn around
grrrrrrr really ****y over that, i know and ive done it
you come up on a tree stand and theres a dude in you smack your head
like your a dummy TURN AROUND or sign language with the owner
id never climb into anyone tree stand regardless of disertion time
lol the damn thing might not hold my fat ass for one, 2 the owner spent a lot of time building the damn thing i respect that ive built a few things and would definatly not want anyones behind on them just my 2 cents worth of course

BUD, yer gonna get CREAMED on that post!

I climb trees for a living. I'm still getting used to our Baby Kongs and will never be 100% comfortable and they have been installed by a pair of professionals!

Etiquette aside, there are some very real safety concerns with using others' stands. Do not do it! There are those who have a hate on for 'em. They could be sabotaged for crying out loud! Don't go up there! Even a 10' tumble can be an ugly thing. Not worth it IMHO!

Haha....oh I see....YOU set the rules and adjust accordingly....nevermind then.

The gun that you find in the bush thats yours though....doesnt matter that its registered eh?

I'm sure you're the expert on property law, so I'll just listen from now on.....lol

BTW....let me know if you're ever camping on public ground...I need a new wall tent and would be happy to take yours.....

Oh wow note to self don't go anywhere near where bud hunts. But agian If you pack it in pack it out ,

But with a tree stand in the bush its pretty simple if its not yours don't touch it .I know If I caught someone touching my stuff id lay a whoopin on them . Go ahead press charges against me , I bet ya you'll never steal again after getting your ass kicked .You know its not that hard to use a little respect.

Jeez bud!!
my bow has my name and number on it and my rifle has a licensed serial number. I also leave my mountain bush in the bush sometimes when I hunt off it.I mark quite a bit of my hunting gear and also most of my tools are engraved with name and number. You mean if you came across something in the bush or elsewhere you wouldn't give me a call or make an effort to return anything?
Most guys would be pretty appreciative over someone making an effort to do the RIGHT thing and probably reward you a little something.

What you call junk Bud is actually not so. It was left there for a purpose, not garbage, not refuse. I hope and wish that there is a certain moral of ethics amongst ourselves (hunters and outdoorsmen) that we can leave someone else's belonging as they are. For sure, if I found an unused tree stand and the opportunity called for it, I would use it and expect no alarm from the guy that put it there, I would extend the same courtesy. In fact, I have left my outfitter's tent in the back country and later found that it had been used, but not abused....so what's the problem?. I once left my Buck knife stuck in a pole at Sandy McNabb campground corrals, forgot it there. Two weekends later, that same knife was still stuck there in the same pole and as far as I can remember in the very same position. No one had touched it. I can't begin to tell you how good that made me feel about human nature in general. I suppose that had BUD been there, ......... well I'd not be feeling so good after all.

Bottom line is I'm glad that they're all a lot of good honest folks out there.
