My favorite one is the underpass that proclaim the wonders of Red Deer, above a sculpture of a White Tailed Deer.

I can only hope that the taxpayers are happy with how the city spends their money.

Yeah maybe they should have spent their money on hiring professionals to install that soffit and fascia - it looks like it was installed with wrecking ball.

I actually thought those sculptures had been vandalized when I first looked at the pics

"The Artist sculpts what they feel"...better send em a get well card.

Same crew that installed this http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=409795

I'm sure the city has more than enough highly paid Inspectors to check the work, no?

It’s probably a non Canadian artist.

Put a cape on it and make it SuperDeer!

Laughing deer, broken / hyper extended legs, ribs hanging out - those sculptures look ridiculous.

I want my money back !!!!!!

We just get chrome balls in Edmonton, 2 of which would look amazing between that deers back legs. Gather round kids and join us in singing, Rudolph the chrome balled reindeer.

Going back about 20 years somebody made the wise decision to put painted, anatomically correct bull statues alongside some busy Edmonton streets. They had to take most of them down because guys kept booting the sacks off them. Bahaa. I think repair work ended up costing more than the original statues.

Same as the stuffed bear outside the Beaverlodge hotel bar. My taxidermist buddy had to fix the poor guys face once a year because of guys coming out of the bar putting the boots to him and whizzing all over him. Head looked like a plate of mashed potatoes and gravy.

At least it’s just a bad deer. You can actually tell what it is. Canmore has something that looks like toilet paper in a breeze. Think it’s supposed to represent a chinook…

Default Tough crowd

There is a blatantly obvious reason most of us don't see the appeal of this work of art...we're not cultured enough.
These look like the work of the artist who designed the modern deer warning highway signs that started appearing about 10 years ago.

Maybe an arrow in the right spot. These artists must be some special people to know the expression of a deer in full jump mode with a metal post that has entered it body but I guess they "ARE" expressionists. Why couldn't they come up with something that actually shows the true majestic of the beast. Unbelievable K-RAP!!

Who approves this stuff?? I wouldn't want my kids looking at a deer laying in that position.

I suppose that the intended sequence of the combined scultures could have been meant to represent a tumbling deer... But man, that last one is just NSFW...

I'm firmly convinced that corporate art exists for the sole purpose of reminding the tax payer of exactly how little they matter. You want people to understand that their hard earned money was intentionally used to purchase actual garbage on a whim, by public servants that aren't even terribly important.

Going on that line of thought, this is terrible even for corporate art... it appears to be an extremely poorly executed attempt at making something that was supposed to be visually striking. Good public art should be a well executed and obvious effort in creating something that absolutely nobody could possibly enjoy.
