ABA 3d Bowhunter Challenge Class Happenings 2016
The ABA 3d Bowhunter Challenge is alive and well. Just a quick note that a letter will be sent out to all ABA affiliate/associate clubs outlining the program this year. If a club wants to add the class they can contact the ABA 3d Committee. We are hoping that the all the clubs in Alberta will embrace the idea.
If a club picks up the class the ABA will provide scorecards, medals for all Bowhunter Challenge Class placements (1,2,3 and kids medals), rule sheet. All the club has to provide is the course and the shooters!
If you want your club to add the class please contact the ABA.
More information to follow.

The ABA Bowhunter Challenge submission request emails have gone out.
If you intend on submitting a bid please email the submission to kris@albertabowhunters.com by May 22, 2016. The 3d Committee would like to make a decision by May 31, 2016.
Also if any clubs wish to add the ABA Bowhunter Challenge Class to their regular outdoors shoots please let us know! We will assist by providing an "implementation package" with everything you need to insert the class into your shoot.

Is the max range for this class still 40yards for 2016? I would like to see it included in our clubs shoot but the extra set up the different max yardage is a deturant for the club.

Yes 40 yards max, no extra stake or setup as the green stake is still standard. Just the equipment used is changed and stake position if a "hunting" simulated shot is desired.

Is the green stake the trad/recurve class?

They can be found on the ABA website.
c. Traditional:
i. Traditional equipment will be either a longbow, recurve or self-bow of any make or design and will not include sights or stabilizers.
ii. All bows in MTBH/ FTBH- 16 and above will be required to have a legal bow (40 lbs. at 28”)
iii. All traditional bows will be drawn by fingers in contact with the bowstring and released by opening the hand. Exceptions are horn rings and if the person is disabled, a mouth release may be used.
iv. Bow silencers attached to the string may be used.
v. The arrows may be of any type and may be nocked with lighted nocks

No gloves or tabs?
or is this a mis-print and should read "All Traditional bows will be drawn by figers in contact with the arrow , a glove or tab is permitted.

Just had a couple questions regarding the upcoming shoot as this will be my first shoot that I have attended.
1- do we need to pre register at all or just show up on Friday and register then.
2- is there room for Tavel trailers to camp over night?
3- what would am I to expect brought the day? Do we all shoot at once or are we broken up into groups?
I think that is it for now haha as I said this will be my first shoot so I'm pretty oblivious as to what to do.
Thanks

That's awesome you are coming out!
1. Lots of camping available, registration is Friday night and Sat Morning. 2 rounds of 20 shot Saturday with lunch midday and a dinner Saturday night. No pre-registration.
2 You can make your own group (3-5 usually) or join a group, if you are coming alone you will be put in a group. Bring lots of arrows (range is not known but a max of 40 yards), binoculars (to see where the scoring rings are), water and snacks for the course. Usually takes 1.5-2 to complete 20 targets depending on the flow.
We all started somewhere so don't worry the archery community is very accepting, ask lots of questions and have fun!

Great weekend for a shoot....weather wise was typical Alberta with a little bit of everything. Thanks again to all the organizers, volunteers, sponsors and shooters. Big thanks to Brazeau Bowbenders for hosting and Jim-Bows for sponsoring the buckle shoot up. Normanrd was victorious and came out on top after a pressure cooker of a shoot off. Placement plaques in the different classes will be handed out at the AGM/Banquet in Nisku in the spring of 2017.
Hope to see more of you next year!

Excellent job bringing things together Kris! Thanks again for your efforts. Thanks also to the sponsors! You guys made the shoot! Everyone went home with a prize. That's fantastic!
Thanks also to the Brazeau Bowbenders for doing a fantastic job on the venue. Your course was in great shape, as usual, and the target placement was fair to the bowhunter, yet extremely challenging at times. I actually contemplated taking an ethical pass a couple of times!
Congratulations to every one who came out. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
