My son and I are going in the first rifle season. I left booking a motel till late yesterday and we are forced to stay in IRMA.

It will be good that there is snow on the ground and perhaps there will be some new snow soon.

Older snow shows where the deer have been traveling a lot. A skiff of newer snow shows where they have been traveling recently. Scrapes without the new snow show they are active. Having snow in the bush makes seeing deer easier. If the snow has a little "crunch" to it in makes it easier to hear deer coming.

yes definitely snow out there, and not just a skiff. Now how fresh I don't know as I left on the 4th.

No new snow, was melting a bit yesterday and warm today. I have been told that this is the last year for the range hunt.

Thats a bummer, I was hoping to go 2014 for first rifle season. I wonder if this is true if thats a permanent or temporary closure?

I wasn't in Wainwright, but not too far from there, and there is probably a minimum of 4" of snow everywhere, and in some spots in the bush, a few inches more.

Just got back from there... more snow than you would think. Big time drifts were the problem getting around. Good luck! Lots of game up there.
