Default Truck help.....

Hey guys, i am considering buying a truck for the 07 hunting season. It will be used mainly on the hwy and gravel with very little off road use. It has to be 4x4, ext cab, sellable at the end of november and most importantly reliable. Im looking for a truck with a price tag thats right too.....say $5000.

Do you guys have any comments/opinions on dependable makes and models. I will require 20 000 kms out of the truck, and then plan on getting rid of it. Things to consider are, parts avaliability, fuel mileage, off road ability, durability, reliability, and how the vehicle will hold its value .

I am not the most mechanically inclined person, but am capable of doing some work under the hood to prepare it for hunting season.

Im i will obviously be looking at older, high mileage vehicles in this price range....what are some things to look for when checking out a prospective vehicle.

Besides the truck trader and bargain finder are there any other good resources for tacking down vehicles?........

Thanks for the help and advice fellas......

Those are pretty well the best places to start looking... I find some of the better deals on used trucks are outside the city... It involves more driving around, but the sellers tend to be more motivated mainly because they don't get as many people stopping by to look.

Have fun looking! Hope you find a great truck.

I've done well at the various vehicle auctions around, but you have to go with your eyes open and some idea of the realistic values of the vehicles, you are interested in. I like lease returns, since they have a history to them and are usually sold for other than mechanical reasons. Also government vehicles, because they are well maintained.

Drake, if interested, i have a truck that i rigged up for the west country, but still needs afew things. Shes an 86 Ford 1/2 ton, ext cab, long box. Warn lockers on 4-11 front and rear diffs, 4 speed manual trans, and a 351 pushing her. I put nearly 5 Grand into this truck, but it still needs a power steering pump, has an issue with a susp part, and needs a carb. This truck runs as it sits, and since pulling her out of the shop where i had all the work done, she has only driven from my old home, to my new acreage 2 years ago. She is one very torky truck, believe me, power. Must drive to know. I would never consider selling her if i lived closer to my beloved trout streams. But, being geared the way she is, and living in the eastern part of the province, i have to normally travel a fair amount of hiway to get to my hunting and fishing. Slip tank as well, but no tranfer pump. Have been telling buddies to spread the word, but i have not advertised this truck, as still dragging my feet about selling. I do need to sell her though. If interested in something like this, i know where one is sitting, and can get you pics if you might want a look.

keep a strain on er.
