You will need to bring in your vehicle registration and insurance pink slip into the briefing as well.

Range Access Permit
Follow this link and you can print off your Range Access Permit ahead of time. This will speed up the registration process on the first day of the hunt.

Can you take a second rifle as backup? And is the nwa still on raffle for entry or is it open to everyone as foot access only?

All information is in the above link, there are a few big changes this year so it would be a good idea to give it a good read.

last year you needed the following to be able to hunt in the NWA
hand held gps
game cart or sled or carrying pack
food and water for 12 + hours
i would also recommend good led headlamp
lots of fuel you can easily put 200km a day on the truck just on the base
the draw was for 30 hunters per day in the NWA and lots of people didn't even try for it, when we were there as it was only the second hunt that was allowed in the NWA.( they were pretty flexible on this as if they had a few extra hunters apply over the 30 the let everyone go )
we had both our cows down late afternoon the first day
glad we had the GPS as we were working well into the dark that night
makes you feel pretty isolated when out in the NWA and you can't see any lights as reference points

GPS? Check
Game cart and sled? Check
Food and water? Check
Headlamps? Check
Hunting partner if I don't kill one Monday??? Nope! He's only able to help on the first day. Which is more than I thought he'd be able to da after what he's been thru health wise this year anyway so it's a bonus just to get him there for that day.
Looks like I will likely be doing the gutless method for the second time ever if I get lucky.
Good luck folks.

success
Sure did not see many elk today (only 3) but with a tip from Cowtown Guy, managed to get a big old cow that had been wounded by someone else. Luckily it's injury was low on the back leg so next to no meat loss. Hope everyone else had success as well today.

Hunted all day today with no success. Ended up going home and will not be returning for the rest of the hunt. Only seen one small herd on the base that was slowly "picked through" as the day went by. No Bulls bigger then spikes. NWA is your best bet if your lucky enough to be drawn for the day. Good luck to everyone staying for the remainder of the hunt.

wow -sounds like its deteriorated significantly there. My buddy didn't get his draw, I'm glad he didn't. Do you folks think the herds may have become wise to the base hunting and moved off the base completely?

Hunt start time today will be 9:21. Then a 40km drive to the other side of the base where the majority of the elk were spotted yesterday. At 50 Kph. That puts you at 10:10 ish for the first guy thru the gate. I’m. number 19 in line.
The numbers are supposed to be in the 4K range. 2719 square kms here. And they don’t stay full time.

Yeah we are at gate 9 waiting, I am not sure I agree stacking trucks up on the highway is really a safer idea then letting us on.
We seen 3 elk yesterday and I bet there was 15 hunters zoning in on them. Heard a lot of shooting so I think some got lucky.
My wife's draw this year and shes a good shot but like time and a calm environment so I am hoping to find a cow off solo that we can sneak in on.

i would be there before 6AM, better to wait a bit for it to start rather then missing it and not get to hunt that day. Keep the updates coming! I'm in there next week for a bull.

Got a flat this morning. Got on the base at 9:34. Picked up the flat around 10:00. I’m not going to drive around in there without a spare. Can only imagine the tow bill if it has to be picked up on a flat deck. Went to get my flat fixed and was told that I’ll not be allowed back today.
That is it for me. I’ll not be back. This has been an exercise in frustrations. Burned 7 points hoping to get a look at the bulls there. There was no expectations of killing a big bull. Just never envisioned this.
