I know it's a radical idea but let's lay off the high priced management friends of the NDP, and put more government service workers on the frontlines to improve our healthcare and education systems.

Seems to me like the UCP catering to big corps isn't really in the best interest of the average working class family either.

Not sure the UCP has a good track record with the front line workers but here is to hoping things change. I can assure you that despite DS's rhetoric, her changes to AHS have been more to do with putting people in power that align with her opinions rather than what could be in the best interest of the people utilizing these services (aka the taxpayers).

It would seem to me that if I was a big business monopoly, I'd want to use the government to regulate my competition and to transfer tax dollars from workers to myself.

Maybe if you examine the party you want to vote for you'll find that the party of the "working class" has actually been coopted by their big business friends.

Why?

So they can ensure that you and I pay higher taxes for corporate bailouts and that Canadian oligopolies are protected from competition. If the NDP cared about the working class they'd promote cheap energy, competition in the market to reduce prices, and lowering taxes to reduce government corruption.

The NDP are the anti Robin Hood, they steal from the poor working class and give to their rich university educated elite and business friends.

NDP cater to unions no matter the cost to taxpayers. I'd rather see private companies getting tax breaks and emplying more people that pay taxes than larger government jobs that cost taxpayers more. Without private companies the government will run out of money. NDP always support bigger government and union government jobs no matter what.

The more civil servants you have, the more private sector businesses/workers you need to pay their salaries. The socialist parties seem to overlook that fact.

Well I'm having a few beers on my days off and listening to music tonight. This little diddy came up on my youtube and I can't help reflecting on my life in Alberta.

I'm proud to be from a town with no Walmart or Canadian Tire. No big business chain has come in yet to shut down our local businesses.

What is a local business to me? Well they support every activity in the town, but they don't only do it in the monetary form. I can tell you how one day my kid needed a ride to skating because my wife would have been home too late to take her. They stopped by and helped get my little girl to her skating lesson.

I can tell you of another time where I forgot my debit card to purchase my goods and they said just come back and pay when you have it with you. Letting me leave with the unpaid goods.

For me we need to level the playing field and help these small mom and pop stores compete against the big chain stores like Walmart and Costco. They're not some distant entity but my friends, neighbours, and family. Which is why I proudly support the party of small business, I support the UCP. Let's give the Little Man a chance against Canada's monopolies.

Why so presumptive? I just asked a question about where the money was going in an attempt to prompt some critical thinking hear rather than mindless regurgitation of political rhetoric. Both parties readily funnel money to their supporters in one way or another. If you think different you've been mislead.

Just because I think DS doesn't have enough smarts to flush a toilet much less run a province doesn't have any bearing on my political values - and save your presumptions regarding my political preferences - it doesn't insult me.

I cling firmly to the believe that if a politician's lips are moving, he, whatever, is Lying. You have to decide which one is stretching the truth the least and fits your underlying ideology. I believe we need to steer a more independent course than Central Canada would impose on us, that leaves the UPC, in spite of all their stupidity.

Sure is shame that we are left with, plugging our noses and choosing the best of a bad bunch! Nutley will jump straight into be with the turd and that other person! Ottawa will continue to rape and destroy the oil industry and Alberta. Smith, while she has issues, at least may attempt to stand for Alberta and most Albertan's values.

A LOT of signs for "the other guy" in my area. Getting pretty worried myself. Our guy was 3 days late on putting out signs after the writ was dropped, and the other guy's signs we everywhere the first morning. He's starting to catch up now, but it sure has us concerned for our normally hard blue area.

Same in my area.

I just tell myself that those who vote blue are too busy working to have time to put up their signs.

Only 2 big reasons in Ottawa??

You know, in times like these, I just think to myself about how much better we’d feel if we all paid more carbon tax and how voting for the dippers would enable it:

What am I being presumptive about?

Simple fact is real Canadians believe in protecting human rights, personal liberty, Rule of Law and small government like our grandparents who went to fight the Nazi's over seas. Like the current UCP who fights for the people against corrupt government institutions.

They don't vote NDP, because they don't need to be told how to live by a small group of Elites in Edmonton and Ottawa looking to tax them to death. And they get ****ed off when they opened their doors to welcome immigrants for decades only to be called fascist, racist, white supremacists, by those NDP and Liberal leaders.

I have a simple message for those working to divide Albertans and Canadians

It' a good message, but probably just get the t-shirt raab? Better not to post it, already getting too many complaints about this thread.

Sounds good, I’ll try to be on my best behaviour from here on out. My frustration with the current situation got the better of me.

I just went from my home to Canadian Tire and back, two days ago I would have passed 30 ndp signs on that trip, but today, I only saw 2 ndp, and 2 ucp signs. Someone certainly made a lot of signs disappear.

Since this thread is supposed to be about this election I figured I'd post some of the UCP platform announcements.

"A re-elected UCP government will create a new 8% bracket on income under $60,000. This means every Alberta earning $60,000 or more will save $760 – that’s over $1,500 per family! Albertans earning less than $60,000 will see a full 20% reduction to their provincial tax bill under this tax cut."

"A re-elected UCP government will also extend the Fuel Tax Holiday until December 31, 2023, saving Albertans 13 cents per a litre at the pump. "

"This commitment to lowering taxes builds on our No Tax Hike Guarantee, the UCP’s pledge to not increase personal or business taxes. We will formalize this guarantee in government by expanding the Taxpayer Protection Act to ensure no future government can increase personal or business taxes without first getting approval from Albertans in a referendum."

https://www.unitedconservative.ca/an...all-albertans/

"Key Facts:
  • Only months into their mandate, Rachel Notley’s NDP Energy Minister told unemployed Albertans to go to BC for work.
  • Under the NDP, Alberta experienced 13 consecutive quarters of negative interprovincial migration, starting in Q3 of 2015.
  • Statistics Canada has been reporting interprovincial migration numbers since 1961.There is only one other time that Alberta had 13 consecutive quarters of negative interprovincial migration and that was in the early 1980s, under Pierre Trudeau’s National Energy Program.
  • Under the UCP, tens of thousands of Canadians are choosing to move to Alberta and we have had six consecutive months of positive interprovincial migration."

"A re-elected UCP government will introduce:
  • The Alberta is Calling signing bonus. A $1,200 non-refundable tax credit for targeted skilled trades and professions where we have labour shortages – including in healthcare, childcare, and trades. Workers will be eligible after living here for a year.
  • The Graduation Retention Tax Credit. A $3,000-$10,000 tax credit for students in qualified high-demand professions to stay and work in Alberta after graduation.
  • Increase auto-credentialing for in-demand professions. We’ll work with professional bodies to ensure there are no unreasonable barriers to approving credentials and expand auto-credentialling from provinces and countries with similar standards."

You can see the whole plan to diversify the economy in the link below.

https://www.unitedconservative.ca/wp...May-4-2023.pdf

“I want to be clear: under the UCP’s Public Health Care Guarantee, we are committing to all Albertans that under no circumstances will any Albertan ever have to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or to get the medical treatment they need,” said UCP Leaders Danielle Smith

https://www.unitedconservative.ca/an...are-guarantee/

"Danielle Smith and the United Conservative Party will ensure all Albertans have access to $10-a-day daycare by 2026."

https://www.unitedconservative.ca/an...ent/childcare/

To contrast the UCP platform we have the Karen Notley led NDP promising massive spending but at the same time promising not to raise "personal income tax". The only way Karen will be able to implement her promises is with increased spending which she'll have to find either by taking Alberta further into debt, or bringing in a Provincial Sales Tax so you pay 7% more on everything you buy.

Karen's commitments:

More Doctors:

"We will invest $350 million to establish 40 new Family Health Clinics and $400 million to hire an additional 4,000 allied health professionals."

Healthcare Innovation Fund:

"The Healthcare Innovation Challenge Fund is a groundbreaking initiative by the Alberta NDP, and is the first of its kind in the province. Through the fund, the Alberta NDP will invest an initial $75 million over the next three years to prioritize the procurement, scaling, and deployment of innovative solutions in healthcare settings across Alberta Health Services."

More Affordable Government Housing:

No price tag attached. I expect it will be in the billions. Those billions will be transferred to Non Profits with the right political connections. The transfers will come from you and I the taxpayers of this province.

New South Edmonton Hospital:

No price tag again, but will be in the billions.

Increasing AISH:

No Price Tag

I could go on because the spending list is so long, but there's no mention on how they're going to fund any of it. As I said before the most likely option will be a provincial sales tax.

You can find out more here.

https://www.albertandp.ca/commitments

As you can see the difference between these two platforms is stark. This election will define Alberta's political future going forward.

Do we elect the fiscally responsible UCP or the fiscally irresponsible NDP with massive spending planned?

Do we elect one of our own middle class workers who worked in radio for her years between politics. Or someone who has been a politician for the last 14 years?

Do we elect a leader like Danielle who wants to stand beside us and help us move forward with our lives. Or do we want one like Karen who will tell us what to do from her ivory tower and try to keep young people in the basement of Alberta?

The lyrics to the Big Sugar song "All Hell for a Basement" seem applicable to our current situation.

"I have lost my way
But I hear a tale
About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basement"

Have we as Albertans lost our way. Will we continue to live in the hell of Karen's basement? The Notley/Trudeau alliance will finish off what's left of Alberta.

Or will we restore the heaven Alberta saw under Ralph Klein?

The choice is yours Alberta, so what will it be?

Regardless of party, I'm all for better health care and education. We need to figure out that simply throwing money at both systems won't make them better. We need to revise the systems, not just throw more money at them.

Agreed, I'm a big fan of the Swiss system. 50% of our provincial budget goes towards healthcare and it still doesn't work.

Edit: I wish more Canadians knew about the Social Market system adopted by Germany and Switzerland after WWII. We're being held back by government monopolies, and oligopolies in the private sector.

Here in my hood of Redmonton, I am quite surprised at the number of UCP signs showing up on front lawns. Much better than the last go around. The UCP guy is a nurse as well. Wonder if that sways some Redmonton minds. Be nice to see an upset.

Meanwhile in Canmore, one of the most expensive places to buy a home, our local dipper is running on a platform of affordable housing in the valley so I can only presume that they plan to ???????. Maybe eat the rich or have a purge or increase taxes to the point of no return.

Don’t worry they have a really really solid plan. They’re going to give out rental incentives and form a rental bank to ensure everyone in the bow valley can afford to live there. Meanwhile the single mom in Calgary making 60, 000 a year, just getting by due to Trudeau’s inflation will have to pay to fund it.

If they’re elected I’ll be moving to the Bow Valley and working at McDonald’s. There’s no reason to work hard in Notley’s Alberta.

An article that looks at NDP proposed health care. Doesn't sound good when Ontario did it and was not effective.

Death threats will do that. Local restaurant owner came out and publicly supported the UCP. My Leftie buddy says he won't eat there anymore, the restaurant makes about the best food in town.

Lol, right… and the dippers have the distinct advantage of carrying Jagmeat & trumao. I can’t think of a better line up!
