Just got mine too, haven't checked the paperwork.
How do you know it is activated?

It says that the card is now active and ready to use on the form that the card is stuck to. I'm not sure if you need a pin number or if you just swipe the fuel link membership card. I'll find out tomorrow morning.

if it is a green/grey card it is authorized. They started sending them out ready to go in July. You used to have to go in and have them call Calgary to turn the card on.

I actually think this is a hell of an opportunity for UFA. I wrote a long and detailed letter to their senior leadership and board laying out how I think they can leverage this and take maximum advantage of the large bump in members and an entirely new demographic. I will be very interested to see if they capitalize on this great business opportunity.

Just shows there is price gauging going on. Government should post what the price should be every AM and hold stations accountable.

I am a little hesitant, to ask the government to start setting prices on consumer goods and services. The government controlling some prices could soon lead to them controlling most prices, and also controlling wages, and the government having so much control, isn't a good thing.

I agree. Price and wage controls have been tried before, even here in Canada. So has rent control. They were all unmitigated disasters that caused tremendous imbalances and made the problems even worse. I agree with FortMac, publicise the names of the gougers and let the public deal with them. If collusion and price fixing can be proven prosecute them harshly and fine them for every cent of the excess profits but don't get into actual price controls.

are you kidding me? retailers can charge what ever price they think is appropriate. it is up to you as a consumer to decide if the price charged is reasonable or not, not the government. When retail starts seeing a reduction in there sales, they will soon narrow the price gap. all government will due is create inflated prices.
everyone employed decides if the wages they are working for is appropriate or not, no one else. we don't need any socialism in Alberta. You can bet your bottom dollar they know what UFA and Costco are charging. to the penny!

You make things more and more expensive for people like what is happening, Eventually someone far worse than Notley will appear and say the right thing to people who have watched everything they have worked for slowly evaporate. Then you will have a real problem on your hands.
People can only withstand getting less and less for so long until they start listening to obscure ideas.

you have no concept of retail! you, alone are in control of what you pay for gas, period. purchase from the cheapest place possible, line ups at service stations are noticed immediately, by everyone in town. unless you prefer Esso/ Shell products.

Some wage and price controls have been tried in the past, and the results were not a good thing.

i totally agree, the consumer is in control of prices, service stations not selling gas for a day or two is corrected immediately. the only ones who don't get it are the socialist leaning.

One, you are either not reading what is written or have a large gap in your ability to understand. When EVERY SINGLE gas retailer, including COSTCO, is gouging the customer, the customer has no power to affect an outcome. There is no cheaper option and not buying at all, beyond a certain ability to cut back, is not a viable option. You need to get to work, shop and get around. Pubic transport is not a viable option for most.
Two, no one is advocating price controls but the free market does need to work. If retailers are colluding that is illegal and they need to be prosecuted. To believe that they are not colluding given what has been happening, beggars belief.
Try not to make an arguement with people that understand this and actually agree with most of what you think.

Ufa
My guess is UFA has been trying to build market share for last few weeks. They realized 30 cent/liter markup was plenty of profit and did not need Shell/Exxon 50 cent markup gouging the consumer. Been buying their gas and diesel for years.

The lineups at UFA are kind of annoying now though. For the last ten years, you could likely pull into any cardlock, anytime, and pull up straight to a pump. Now, it seems any cardlock, between 8:00 - 8:00, there will be a lineup and you're waiting.
