Default 2nd line setup

So I heard you can use 2 lines on the ice. When going for local trout at Chickakoo, What setup is the best for the second line. Would you just get a rod holder and set it up with a worm on a hook. Do you use a bell on the rod? and do you set the drag really loose?

You could go with a bell on your rod, or a slip bobber set up.

You could also set up a tip up as a second line.

worm some split shots, slip bobber and i usually pull out enough line so that when the fish takes it is able to pull the bobber down without the resistance of the rod.

All the above. Dont go to far away from the second one, with a trout you will not have much time to set the hook and it will be gone. I usualy set up my second rod no more than 10 feet away so I can keep an eye on it.

Make sure it solidly placed in the snow or holder. Almost lost a rod last season but a mad dash and a soaked arm to nearly the shoulder saved the rod and landed the fish.

I'll use either a rod locker (with a bell on the rod):

Or a Windlass tipup:

The links look funny, but they should work.

I've had good luck using the automatic fisherman.

Slammer tipups are similar and you can get the plans to build them your self. Google both if you want more info.
