There a ton of posts on cross, just do a search or look at the first 3 pages.

Fishing has been good, was great but has started to slow down. Someone went through the ice last week, front end only I hear.

People are driving out and there are probably 100 vehicles on the ice. There is no snow on the lake and very slick, invest in some ice cleats for your safety. Bring maggots.

I use my quad to get out to the spots but there was 20" of ice.

It's REALLY overfished. Not worth your time. They should close the lake's limits to let it recover...

What do you want them to do, change the regs mid season because the hoards heard about a lake? It's interesting how many of the board members immediately blame Alberta Fish and Game when their favourite dinky perch lake gets hit by some big city pressure. If the perch are too small the limit should be raised and if there are no perch it's F&G's fault that it got fished out? Quit looking for scapegoats and simply realize that in a province with a few million people and less than 900 fishable lakes, the more accessible ponds will be fished hard and often. This is a regulations nightmare and Ill hazard a guess that the vast majority of board members have no experience in fisheries management and no degrees to back up any of their 'knowledge' on how to fix the problem. You can cry about it or go for a drive north the escape the tent cities. I assure you if you drive 4 hours north and do a little exploring, you can still find fabulous fishing in Alberta. As an aside, this post is not meant to pick on Drake, I realize he was being facetious.

Crownb, sorry about the hijack. There are perch in Cross, however the ratio of perch to perchfishermen is quickly decreasing. Unless you enjoy fishing while sitting on the tail gate of someone elses truck, I would not recommend this lake.

I was wondering if someone was going to make an intelligent post on this thread. I guess the wait continues.

take your kids out there- no license required

take your grandma and grandpa out there- no license required

take your aboriginal friend out there- no license required

take your wife to canadian tire and buy her a license

It takes at least 5 limits of 6" perch for a meal!......

Judging by the take, take, take comment, he clearly is as foolish as his posts. Bravo Drake, you're a great advocate for responsible harvest. I'm sure your kids will be as well. Keep up the good work.

You're right...they won't fish it out....but the quality of fish is going to go downhill fast.

Default Cross

Talked to the biologist in Athabasca and he is recommending the limit go down to 5-10 perch. They are already seeing a huge reduction in the population already.

Its funny fishing was great there last year seems like it great this year and i'm positive it will be great next year. Perch are not like other fish i'm not saying that you ignore limits or fish management but the are a very renewable resource.
