Efficiency
Okay guys. Pike are just like you. Get old and fat, and your "efficiency" declines, and also, the ladies aren't much interested !!

tobin lake saskatchewan. NO northern pike between 75cm and 115cm may be retained.
For someone who says he knows so much about pike, you should know of the famous tobin lake (the flats), and the world record ice fishing walleye pulled from there also.

Problem is this is Alberta. I would love to see it too, havent been able to find it in our regs yet I must be reading right past it LOL. Sask has a different mandate that Ab FishingGeek. We prefer our fisheries with here with a side dish of ran into the ground.

lol. SOOOOO true. I cant believe that most pike slot limits in alberta you can only keep pike OVER a certain length. Why not let an angler keep a couple small ones and let the bigger ones go till they hit a trophy length. The big girls can produce 20 times the eggs as a small one, so why have a slot where you can keep a pike over 25-30inches. Doesn't make any sense.

Ok so of all the lakes in all the provinces you came up with one slot limit that promotes keeping pike over 30 lbs? obviously a management stratagy for that specific lake.
1 in what 1 000 000 canadian lakes? my point is proven.
you prob wasted your whole night finding that reg.

Lake of the Prairies also has slot limits.
All lakes in northwest (I think it's northwest) Ontario have slot limits from 27.5 to 36 inches for pike.

yep I see cow lake too. 1 pike over 100 cm allowed.....To protect the perch and trout pops in that lake. there might be a half dozen in Canada all for a very specific purpose and used as a management tool to protect other species.
Why dont you head to those lakes for monster pike and let me know how you make out.
Sorry you missed Big Bang Theory to find that reg. fishinggeek.

Its very difficult to name a lake that JUST holds pike in large numbers. So you could say it is "to protect the other species" for any example that they give because of the other fish within the water body. Terrible argument.

Not sure what you are trying to say here Ricky. Are you saying that Cow only has pike? Have you fished there? I have several times. Used to be a trout lake but now mega perch and the odd monster rainbow left. Also some big pike.
Please use your words and explain.

Yeah, you can't keep pike within that range, bigger you can keep and smaller you can keep.

Slot limits work on some lakes, on others not so well, from what I have read over the years.

Any idea why they don't work on some lakes?

If the lake cannot sustain big fish, a slot limit would not really work.

but wouldn't keeping the mid sizers allow the bigger hogs to have more little ones to chow on?

small lakes with no fatty/oily fish(whitefish, ciscoe, tullibee and suckers) tend to produce smaller pike than a large body of water with said forage.
