What have you learned about fishing on AO in the past 6 months?
As the title states, what have you learned about fishing? Seems like a bunch of useless threads lately.

Sorry to burst your bubble.
I learned some new tricks about perch fishing, and had some great advice about a lake that I hadn't fished before.

I have never really used the forum to become a better fisherman but I have used it to meet other people to fish with that I have learned from.

I'm sure there is some sprinkling of actual tips/information spread throughout but overall the crap out weighs the good.

Gained lots of knowledge on new lakes and streams, got lots of advice by reading others threads and people willing to send a PM over, the forum gave me clues on what ice conditions were like and what to avoid.. learnt that my bamboo rod is not worth a dime but worth a try fishing with (better then sitting in the closet )..
generally.. I choose to stay away from the threads where people gotta start running there mouths and bashing other people.. there is no gain to my learning or enjoyment reading people down grade others .. and im pretty sure I have seen people complain about the members on this site being jerks.. then in the next thread, the same person is making fun of someone else..
Anyways! The forum has been great and Ive been getting to know a lot of people from it too.. pretty sure each time I log on I learn something new so its been a lot of help.. plus I love checking out pics and hearing peoples stories and experiences.

Learned lots. Especially how to catch rockies this fall, which continued through ice-fishing season.
Met lots of sane, and crazed members who were fun to fish with.
I'm sure I'll meet lots more.
Learned how to catch burbot, not that it's particularly difficult, but had only fished for them a few times beforehand. Didn't stop me from getting skunked at ghost 4-5 times. Got a big one though!
Probably the best information relates to locations. Thanks JTS1 and everyone else! Now I have my own secret-ish spots too.

Good to see some guys are keeping this thread on topic. (should look better now that I deleted 1/2 the posts in this thread)
Funny how the people who were complaining about things on the forum in this thread are 80% of the problem in the fishing section.
Time to clean up your act boys an girls. Your childish behavior is getting really tiring.
Now what have I learned..... I have learned many tactics for various types of Alberta fish. You think you know it all, but then you always find out a new trick or tip that you didn't know about.
Like always, over the past 6 months I have had the chance to meet many new fisher people of AO. Meeting these people has been a pleasure itself.

The only thing I can recall learning on the forum lately is who to share information with and who to not even bother giving the time of day.
I also learned that if you post pictures of fish you better be prepared and have your inbox empty because it will get flooded fast.
If you are talking about the whole forum and not just the fishing section then I can say that I have learned quite a bit about archery and have also had some questions answered on the main forum that would have taken me quite awhile to figure out otherwise.

Maybe we could get some of the few pro-staffers and tourney anglers to start some tips and tactics threads or product review stuff.

As I look far more often than I post, I, like others have gained info on new locations either good or bad, weather conditions at a certain lake, pictures are always welcoming. Someday I will do a fly-in trip partially due to the threads I read on here which give me the itch to head north. I, however far more enjoy providing info when needed than receiving it myself. I truly enjoy being a member of this forum and most of the other members contained within its walls.

I've learned quite a bit about different lakes. But I think I have learned more in person from the people I've met on here and fish with often.

I learned to not find the easy way out. Instead of asking people where to fish, do some leg work. Get out there and try it.

I learned to never post pics .
Joking of course.
I've learned some great icefishing tactics for Wabuman, also have had some members share info on locations at Wab, very helpful. Made fishing such a big lake alot easier.
I've learned some different fly fishing tactics
I've also helped out a couple people with fishing the NSR.
Glad to see this thread hasn't totally gone to heck, its a great thread.

All species of fish referred to above are only slightly higher than suckers, whitefish and burbot, no self-respecting person would actually catch them.

Some very interesting information and some simple like the basics of fly fishing, more adventurous endeavors such as trapping wolves, and the simple things such as where a person may want to camp this summer.

Never use a fellow AO member as a travel agent. But I did find some bass waters to hit this summer

being a fairly new member i must say i really enjoy this site. i'm sure there is crap, useless info. and member infighting on all websites. i like reading how a fisherman or hunters day went and love looking at all the pics. that get posted.if all you want is specific product info. or strategy tips than you can google it. i have learned a lot in general i.e. road conditions, ice conditions, camping facilities, gear set-ups, reg.questions etc. i have also recieved specific info. from other members r.e. n.s.r. fishing tips, 3 new trout lakes near edm. rifle scope info. wild hog hunting info. fur selling info. and much more just by asking.
I love the fact that this site is made in alberta for albertans. when a developer erected an illegal gate that blocked acess to the bow members stepped up. When elk or fish poaching was exposed members were among the first to know and kept other members informed.
thank-you A.O. and fellow members for keeping me informed and entertained.
