Thumbs up N.s.r tonight, thanks Chubbdarter ;)

Hit the n.s.r tonight, met up with a couple friends, walleye, goldeye and a HUGE mooneye were todays fish, river is high and dirty, visibility is a foot because the wind is making it a very dirty river right now. Huge Chubbdarter jig was HOT tonight. Earlier today i had some time to kill so i went for a walk around the wagner natural area, love this natural place, so much wildlife and is a great walk if you are into the outdoors and do not have the time to travel 3 hours away and want to feel like your all ready way deep in the woods, great place.

Almost broke the mooneye record

High stream ADVISORY

http://emergencyalert.alberta.ca/ale...12/06/956.html

This means fishing is going to be awsome for huge fish in one day, cannot wait. People should stay safe when fishing as always. 1 and half hour Northeast of Edmonton Leeaspel.

Best time but do not get to close to the river, in other words, dont wade in it, stand in it, that sort of thing, but ya if you are safe then you will slay them, big rivers are best to fish after a heavy rain or in other words when the river is high

For one Beeguy not many people like fishing in the rain so you may be the only one there but i am usually the only one at my spot anyways for two the fish huddle together closer to shore in the pools to get out of the fast moving current, for three they are hungrey and love eating

Because the high water provides structure , depending how high it gets , think of the grass and small trees and shrubs that would now be under water .

Good to know. I'll be hitting up the mcleod here in the next few days. I got a lot of rivers right on the door step, good lakes are a drive away. Maybe its time to turn to strictly river fishing. And tips on what to use?

Keep in mind the mcleod river is smaller then the n.s.r, so if that stream is high it may be harder to fish, the water may be moving much faster then the big rivers will be, depends where you are fishing the mcloed?

Find a pool , or where the river bends that will slow it down .But not if it's flooded.

I see there are a couple other replies to this already, but I figure I'll toss in my theory as well.

The rain washes bugs etc. into the river along the edges, and along with getting out of the main current, fish will also come in closer to shore for the easy meal.

Also, if the water rises enough, the deep 'holes' in the river aren't as significant as when the water is down, and the fish that normally just hide out in the holes get moving around more. I figured this one out last year when the river was really high and I was getting sturgeon in oddball places that everybody 'in the know' about them says I shouldn't have caught them.

Higher water definitely makes the game a little different

Ahh I've been waiting for the NSR to rise again! I have a couple spots I need to check where the trees overhang the water, and some growing where there will be water! I'm a bit new to this, probably a stupid question but how long does te river usually stay high during a time like this?

Depends on how long it keeps raining upstream

It all depends, there is a high stream advisory for all of the eastern slop streams, and most of these streams go into bigger rivers which means the major rivers get all the water will probably be high for a couple days then more rain is expected for the weekend so it may stay a bit higher then it has been for a week.

new alert issued for Cochrane
http://emergencyalert.alberta.ca/ale...12/06/972.html
so streams in Alberta are rising.
