Default Saw a baby yak....

Not far from where I am staying there is a field full of yaks.....yesterday I saw this newcomer in the herd. I stopped to take the pic and couldn't believe how fast about 6 of the others came over to protect the little guy and make sure I wasn't up to any mischief....

Here he's shaded by the other adults starting to surround him for pretection. I think if I's have tried to cross the fence this post would be about a yak attack !!

Seems like there's lots of them in this area....

Not sure if its a lama or an alpaca or even what the difference is.

That would be a Llama not a yak,, Yak are of the Bovine species, as in Tibet'n Cattle,

Once you go yak, you never go back.

Seriously. I bought yak meat a few months ago, and it's incredible.

Them ain't Yaks! Them's cougar food! Seriously the local F&W officer hates Llama's cause he get's quite a few calls about cougar kills. Apparently Llama is a delicacy to them.

I wish the cat that got hit by my house a couple days ago would have eaten my Lamma first. I hope the wolves like Lamma meat cause I'm turning him into bait as soon as the creeks freez up

Llamas / alpacas are a natural prey item for cougars ... well for the ones that live in South America they are ;p

Miniature donkeys? I know they can be ornery buggers, but I didn't think they were THAT ornery!

Taco you are right they are quick. Got on a cross back in about 1977 I think it was, and it didn't take long to get dumped on my head. Stayed on long enough to get ringworm though

Hoof trimmed some 1\2 blood yak crosses for a bull breeder back in the '80's. Jump them out of the trim chute when you're done and they'd land 20' away, blink and the bastards would be a foot away lookin' you square in the eye

My brother tried Llama on the BBQ said it was good. I've seen them go after coyotes and the coyote was not going to dispute anything with the llama.

Tastes like mild beef. They will stomp the h#ll out of a coyote.

I tried it once. Licking a live llama would have been more pleasureable!

i used to work with a guy that was buying all he could at 20 bucks an animal to eat. i tried it and thought it was pretty awful. domestic sheep are just as bad. wild sheep are pretty good though.....never understood that one.
