Wouldn't it be disrespectful NOT to stand during a National Anthem? Regardless of who's it was?

At the rate we're sucking up to them, we'll all be standing for their anthem soon.

Standard wingnut hoopla.

If he DIDN'T rise for ANY country's national anthem there'd be all sorts of chaos over him being disrespectful.

It is what it is.

Yeah, he has an obligation to show respect for whatever country he may be in, whether it be china or argentina. Such is being a government official.

Can you imagine the uproar if one of their ministers didn't stand for our anthem?

Diplomacy and tradition are pretty cool things to respect if you ask me.

Again, They are Communist, Why is it we show a genocidal totalitarian regime respect? Mao killed 80 million of his Chinese country men from 49-69, These people deserve NOTHING!

Have you any idea how many companies in the oilsands are now owned by chinese state oil companies?

Our government is lowering environmental standards so we can rush a pipeline to the West Coast to serve China

You've got to give it to those Chinese - they know how to exploit our clueless politicians

And you are worried about national anthems

Then quit buying their products. Turn your computer off right now and throw it in the trash. My money is on there being more than a few Chinese components in it. I-pads, I-phones and I-pods are manufactured there. Check your clothing labels, then get back to us.

My dad always taught me to show respect when you accept an invite into another man's home.

I'm doing my best Oko, a little at a time. Some things there is no choice, but if there is, I always chose other. And from what I can gather this happened in Canada not China

The fact of the matter is that we have a lot of trade and diplomatic contact with China. To not stand for their anthem would be disrespectful, idiotic, and make all that diplomatic work pointless. IF you want to teach them a lesson, nevermind the standing or not standing. Just shut down the Enbridge pipeline to the coast and tell them they can't invest in the oilsands. I don't hear anyone here suggesting THAT.

Expected responses by the expected posters.

Don't like the Chinese?

Then make sure nothing, I mean nothing, you buy is made there or has components made there. That is very hard to do. Electronics, car parts and even garlic.

Buy North American. It will help our economies.

But unless you are willing to give up a substantial part of your material and even food aquistions, you have no right to complain.

I'm not overly enthused that there is a statute to Norman Bethune there, but it would have been counter-productive and rude not to stand for the Chinese national anthem. I would expect Chinese to stand for the Canadian one in a similar ceremony.

Some things it just is not worth getting one's mammary glands into a wringer.
