Default Crock pot vs Pressure cooker

Which would you prefer in the kitchen?
Which would you use more?

I don't know anyone who uses a pressure cooker, plus they are somewhat dangerous.

Crock pot would get 1000X the use at my home.

I use both, they both serve their own purpose. The pressure cooker is great for canning, the crock pot for making a nice meal a head of time or using for tougher cuts of meat.

Used properly the pressure cooker has very little danger to it

Pressure cooker if I am home and can give full attention to the device for foods taking 15-30 minutes.

Slow cooker for all my unattended cooking-4-10 hours

X2 I use both. I use the pressure cooker when canning or cooking really tough cuts of meat. Tough meats have more flavour and the pressure cooker can add more flavour while tenderizing. Many people are afraid of the pressure cooker but that's usually due to misinformation or old pressure cookers. As long as the relief valve is not tampered with they are quite safe. I still love my crock pot for stews, chili's, ribs and roasts when I have time to slow cook.

Pressure cooker. My mom always had a couple of them on the go. Cook fast and are safe despite what some people may believe. I would use a forty year old pressure cooker any day after looking at the seal.

Default pressure cooker

I have two of each and the the pressure cookers get used all the time and the crock pots about three times a year. I precook so many things in the pressure cooker it's unbelievable. They are such time savers that it makes things so much easier and quicker in the kitchen. I like to put a roast in with all my spices and then bring it up to pressure and let it cook for about 15 minutes that way then turn the heat off and let it sit for an hour under pressure and and let it cool down slowly. That takes care of a 4-6lb roast and theres juice for gravy and never any leftovers. In the thirty years I've been using them I have never had a problem. My mom grew up with them as well and has never had an incident with one either. I don't know anyone else who uses them. I wouldn't give them up.

I got both as well. Here's how I see them. Crock pot = chicken cooked in 5 hours. Pressure cooker= chicken cooked in 20 minutes. But..... The slow cooker gets used way more. I bought the pressure cooker for canning. The pot part of the pressure cooker gets used a fair bit, as a large pot for soup and stuff, as for.actually pressure cooking, it doesn't get used at all really

The wife has an All American 30 qt. pressure cooker. She loves the safety and simplicity of using it.

Thinking power (electricity) wise that going back to the pressure cooker would be a great way to cut back on bills.
I have had crock pots and they will get used once in a while. But usually I get annoyed with them as some features on the new ones stink and I tossed 3 out.

used pressure cooker in the past and was thinking I might get myself a new one.

Default pots

I throw all sorts of various meats into the pressure cooker and precook them them move them to the BBQ. With chicken this removes the fat so I don't have flare ups and I still have a crispy bird fully cooked in considerably less time. I then cook rice, or whatever, in the stock left in the pot. My kids just love the rice that way. One started doing this year was cook a whole chicken, or drums and legs, a night or two before we would go camping then on our first night I could quickly brown it up on the bbq or fire then we would still have a solid home cooked meal on arrival after setup.
I still have old Presto pots. Getting the rubber ring for the lids can be tough but oddly enough Home Hardware always seems to get them.

We love soup.
So I am thinking this would be a great way to make chicken/turkey/beef soup, without having to let it simmer all day.
Since we moved I get home from work within 15 -20 minutes and that gives son time to play/ride bike before dinner.

Yeah rice in chicken stock is amazingly good.
I have in the past sweated down onions added 1 package of Liptons chicken soup (noodles too) and then added water and rice and served that with dinner and it seems to be a hit.

How much extra time does it take to throw in a whole chicken or roast that is frozen? A couple minutes?

I know you didn't ask, but in the summer a solar oven works great in place of the slow cooker.

I picked one up this summer after coveting them for years. Because I was away most of the summer, I didn't use it a lot, but when I did it was really impressive.

Not a lot of peoplev use a pressure cooker because they will explode and kill everyone for miles around, much like a Daisy Cutter Bomb.

So one nice thing is they can be had in excellent nearly unused condition at garage sales.

The simplicity is a great attraction to me. One of the reasons I love my kids. Not a lot of moving parts.
