Default Nexen Shareholders Approve China Take Over

I don't usually listen to anything MP Rob Anders has to say. Can't stand the little turd, but I think he is bang on about China's nationalized oil company taking over Nexen.

He opposes the takeover because China is a "non-benevolent country."

This is an interesting article about how the demise of the "Petro Dollar" is currently being played on the world stage.

Quite frightening.

Nexen's going to get nationalized. Just not by us.

If you disagree with the sale of private property to a Chinese state company your chance to purchase shares and vote on the deal has passed.

Do you not realize that being in opposition to the deal is hypocritical?

You oppose a state company for getting involved here, but then want our state to get involved in the matters of private individuals.

I have no problems with whoever owns it as long as they pay the appropriate amount of royalties. I looked at buying some Nexen shares a while back... sure wish I had!

I oppose a state owned oil company that supports the destruction of the our way of life for the past 68 years taking control of our resources.

Maybe the tide is about to turn and they will do to us what we have done to them.

Read the linked article.

I understand your position but feel to be opposed to the deal you should have skin in the game.

Purchase some Nexen shares. They are up about 6 bucks on the news. If you feel a Chinese state run company should not own assets in Canada, buy in and reap the risk/reward from the Canadian government blocking or allowing the deal.

Its not fair to let only the share holders assume the liability from the moral choices of others. If you feel strongly about keeping them out, you should have no issues pointing your own money the same direction as your moral compass?

I think we all have skin in this game.
We all stand to get scraped pretty bad.
Nexen shareholders will just be able to buy a few more band-aids than the rest of us.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the opportunity for people in opposition to this deal has passed. Before the shareholders voted to accept the deal, the public in opposition had an opportunity to buy in and either value Nexen higher than the bid by Sino or vote to not accept the change in management.

Objecting today, is crying for nanny state to pick a favorite when the individual was perfectly capable of being part of a democratic outcome yesterday.

If I was opposed to the sino-nexen deal, I would have been bidding Nexen up past $25.00 before the shareholder meeting and voted NO with those overvalued shares I just purchased.

Rob Anders, Steven Harper and least of all the Nexen shareholders have very little to do with this deal getting approved.
Barack Obama will kill it in the build up to the election
Most of Nexen's assets aren't in their Fort Mac huff and puff (that won't huff and puff by the way) they are in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea.
Obama is already getting hounded by Mitt as being soft on China.
Watch him harden up sometime before the first Tuesday in November.

My bet would be to watch Obama kill it and get hard with China and Russia before the election by nailing Syria and Iran.

Glad I'm buying a gun soon

That was a good read and not just some rant; he made a convincing case.

The offshore stuff is a distraction. The value of Nexen is in the 2.3 billion barrels of proved and probable oilsands reserves they hold.

http://www.nexeninc.com/en/AboutUs/M...ease_id=121943

The Chinese Government know this.

Just asking, what is folks comfort level on this board for what percentage of the Alberta Oilsands is appropriate to be under Chinese government control? 10%, 20%, 90%? Because you can bet there will be a dozen more deals after this one.

Conservatives and China. Strange bedfellows indeed!

I'd maybe give them reign over 30%. Anymore than that and it gives them an uncomfortable amount of control over our economy. And "non-benevolent" is fairly accurate for China I think.

So when if the next Chinese government land sale so BullShip Oil and Gas or No Hope Energy can bid on a couple quarters of drilling rights over there?
I guess free enterprise and capitalism only works one way.
Harper better get up ahead and kill this one before Obama makes him look like a *****.
You know REDford won't like Quebec beat off the Rona takeover.
