"Peruked" Moose
Apparently this antler condition (peruking ?) is caused by artificial castration (by Wolves, barbed wire, rifle shot or whatever) during the antler velvet stage. The antlers are not shed and the abnormal mass continues to grow each year.
This one was taken in the Peace River area many years ago. A real anomoly.

Saw one in a Moose Hunter Training course I took in Manitoba in the 70's.
Apparently the natives were very very superstitious of these peruke moose and called them"Devil Moose"

Had to check it out. Apparently, Peruke means wig in French. Interesting name for the condition.

It looks like the antlers have grown over the eye sockets, or am I seeing things? If that is the case, poor moose! It must have been a misery.
I'll show this to the Hublet as I don't think he has seen anything like that either!
