I'm a fixed blade user, no malfunctions! 125 grain Slick Trick magnum IMO is the best of them all.

Default Schwacker Broadheads

I tried Schwacker mechanical broadheads for the first time this year. I was worried a bit about penetration but my brother and I each killed Caribou in northern Manitoba earlier this month, both with passthroughs and huge exit holes, really huge!!! The blades looked perfect and were still sharp even after breaking through ribs upon entry and exit. I used to use Rage broadheads the last few years and they were very effective and again large holes but found the blades do not hold up that well. If ground hunting I found the Rage sometime open with the slightest bump. The Schwacker seem good so far!

Default Broadheads

I've used everything from a field-point, to mechanicals. This year, I'll be using the NAP Killzone. They look to be what I call "The Rage perfected." We'll see!

Pon recommendation I did pick up some of those Grim Reaper razor cuts to try out as well. But why would you go mechanical over a fixed or vice versa?

Default broadheads

From my experience, (and this is just an opinion), I have found fixed-blade broadheads to be more prone to wind-drift and planing. Again, that's just one man's opinion. Others will no doubt have had different experiences with fixed blades. Some of the newer fixed-blade broadheads are pretty small and probably rival mechanicals in the wind-drift department, however, the small fixed-blades don't leave large enough entry and exit wounds to satisfy me, therefore, for my liking, the mechanicals are the choice. Yes, mechanicals do bring with them their own set of challenges and limitations, however, that's where you have to decide for you, what you want. What archers are looking for in their equipment will vary from one person to the next.

Spitfires....have never had one fail or seen one that failed.Huge exit holes and fly like field points. What more can one want? A plus too, is you will never accidentally cut your bowstring with one. With fixed blades you always have to keep that in mind.

Mechanicals. Wasp Jak Hammers. Deadly accurate, fly like darts, leave huge holes, and large, but short blood trails. Try em. You won't be disappointed.

No doubt spitfires fly awesome. I just can't get by the fact when I shoot em into my block target that at least one or two blades snap off. I would way rather shoot a grim reaper or ulmers head for a mechanical. I have been apart of dozens of animals shot with a grim.

I have been shooting 100 grain ram cats for the past 2 years. They fly unreal and penetrate like non other. I shot a moose this year at a long distance and had unreal results.

I only use fixed blade boradheads now! I used to use mechanicals until I had a sheep hunt go from success to empty game bag. After stalking 3 hours on a group of rams, the last 100 yards of which were on the belly, I came up for a shot only to look in disbelief as my rage broadhead had opened up at some point on the stalk. I wasn't about to shoot with one blade open and the other half open so I let down. Needless to say the ram didn't stick around!

I now shoot torphy taker terminal lock broadheads and they flew true and perfect. Wish I had made the switch long ago!

Anyway here is an interesting read i came across on another forum.

http://alcambronne.com/2011/08/15/wh...eads-for-deer/

Mind you I have harvest a lot of game with mechanicals so they do get the job done. Just not for me anymore.

Default favorite broadhead for deer

Slick Trick Razor Tricks. Taken several animals with them. They fly like darts, are cut on contact, and have done very well for me.

i have been using thunderhead 100's since i started bowhunting they have never let me down . and i have not had an issue tuning new bows with them, but everyone shoots a bit different so what works for me may not be good for you. best bet if you have a few buddies shooting different broadheads borrow a couple different ones and see how your bow shoots with each choice

tyler

Muzzy 3 blade.
why:
1. been using them for 7 yrs with no issues, unbelievable in bone, excellent penetration
2. Fly well, just like field points
3. Fraction of the cost (archery has become a huge industry, game of gimmicks)
* if there is a downside, a bit week spined, rarely will you be able to reuse one after a kill shot.

Tought luck!!! I feel your pain.

The new rage broadheads come with 'shock colars' (that break on impact), so the above doesn't happen. Just letting you all know.

Ohh man, I feel your pain right through this computer screen! I've been there too, only not on a ram. THAT is why I've switched to the NAP Killzones. I believe they are the "Rage" perfected.

Check 'em out here!

I had a pack of rage given to me to try out,I haven shot them yet because we were after a couple or rams as well and hiking to the tree line through the bush, this alone opened every one of my rage in the quiver after that I lost all trust in the rage

At best I may us one on a doe from the ground blind, I have never had this issue with the spitfire.

A lot of the expandibles will open on the get go when shooting the exomax excalibur crossbow. I have switched to the 180 grain fixed blade Snuffer. You hit the animal in the big toe and he will still go down. Just a big bad hole going in and out. Not only that. You add all of thet kinetic energy and it also quiets your bow down as well.
