Default Abundance of cougars & wolves?

Has anyone else come across way more predators this year ? I cannot believe how many cougars I've saw in the last couple weeks. Had a run in with one while elk hunting scared him off or else he had a nice calf for dinner. What an experience.

Any thoughts?

I called in 3 wolves today doing cow moose calls. They hung up and continually howled at me.....I had one @ 80yards but we saw each other at the same time and it took off.....a big black one, I only had my bow with me anyhow.

All 3 of them walked in following my tracks in the mud....

In the area south of Fox Creek the wolves are a problem. I know of two that were shot. One pack had approx. 20 wolves in it. Never ever would I have thought that I would hunt my bull moose draw for 6 days and not see one. Also heard that two people arrowed cats & a hunter camped close to me saw a cougar in a lease. I don't expect anything will be done though given the power the tree hugger's have.

We were hunting up on Virginia hills road yesterday, and had a wolf howling from about 200yards. We tried to cow elk call, and howl to bring him in for a shot, but no luck! And I posted the pics and vid of the cougar and 3 kittens about 2 weeks ago! Way to many predators for my liking!

Hunted the 1st week of Oct in northwest corner of 349. in 7 days only saw 2 Moose, (Shot 1) over the years you would usually see 15 - 20 in a week. I called every morn and evening and did not have 1 response, not one!!!. They weren't talking to me, they weren't talking amonst themselves either. But every morning and evening the wolves were howling. the area is presently littered with wolves. One evening on a power line, about sunset there were wolves howling from 3 different area at once. I even saw 3 of them but lets not talk about how the shooting went!!!

Its the worst I seen it in the 25 years I've been going there.

After having worked in the bush from B.C. to Manitoba and all across the north and Arctic for many, many years, I can say without any doubt whatsoever that Cougar, wolf and Grizzly are and have always been very abundant in most areas I have been. I don't give a hoot about so-called biological studies. I have ran into only a handful of biologists in the field over the years. There is no shortage of these predators. They are abundant.

this is getting rediculous with the cougars, another friend of mine hunts 3 miles west of me and had some elk on his camera. On the 10th he has a picture of a massive (looks like tom) cougar since then no deer activity or elk activity.

This is getting frustrating as they are terrorizing the population i find.

Default Cougar tags

Buy cat tags if you feel your area needs some reduction. I wouldnt hold back on dropping the hint to cat outfitters. They have good dogs and there's a real good chance if anyone, there gonna kill some.

What I don't get is why we have any closed season on them at all. Should be open all year round for cats and wolves IMO.

The dogs get mangy - ethics will come into question; waste the hide and carcass...?, and actually breed to have offspring in the spring. Not to say I don't agree (kill them all!), but these things would play into a decision for sure.

Cats - I agree 100,000%, allow dogs ot tree them (how the season is set up now- for winter). Open it the rest of the year for killing them, province wide.

We hunted moose for a total of 7 days and covered alot of country this year up in the Peace. It seems every cut line and every cut block as wolve tracks, fresh in the mud or snow, we even heard them a few times. The moose were not vocal what so ever and I think it is because of the wolf population. Way to many up there in the Peace country. I will try to do my part this year and take a few out.

Buddy had a cougar walk right past his camp, west of Turner Valley.

I believe the deer crossing signs have been moved to less busy roads.

hhhmmmm i wonder with the Pine Beatle in BC and the forests being dead if the influx of predators is somehow related.. we have seen more of them than ever .. just saying and

If a tree dies in the forest does anyone hear? quote
