Importing Gun Parts into Canada
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but are there any regulations on buying a used or replacement gun stock off of a US EBAY auction and having it shipped to Canada?

Ebay is hit and miss. Some sellers will ship to Canada, others won't consider it. We are at their mercy, and how they interpret the US export laws (ITAR). There's no issue with importing a stock into Canada, it's the exporting thats the trick.

Ok, I understand about the seller not wanting to ship, but I wasn't sure what our law states. If its legal as you sy, I guess I just need to convince the seller!

Only things you can't import are "illegal" items. ie hi-cap magazines, full-auto parts, certain(most) bull-pup stocks, etc. Whole firearms of course require pant loads of permits. I was able to score a complete target trigger assembly from the US off ebay, which they aren't supposed to export, but of course is perfectly legal here.

If our law says it can be imported that is only half of the equation. If US law restricts or prohibits export without a permit and the seller ships it to you without regard for US export law they can get in a whole heap of serious trouble.

Gun stocks are widely considered to not be regulated (ie they are exportable), however our small market generally makes most sellers not bother/risk shipping to Canada. Boyds for example does ship to Canada. Brownells states the following on their site:
Quote:
There are a number of items which Brownells sells which need US State Department approval and an export license before they can be shipped out of the country. The regulations are complex and constantly changing but our staff is here to help you understand what is needed and will gladly work with you to correctly accomplish the task.
Generally speaking, items which usually need a license are:
Frames
Receivers
Barrels
Barrel Liners
Various other gun parts such as triggers, sears, ejectors, magazine tubes, scopes, and other items if the ordered amount is over $100.00 US.
|
I've found Brownells excellent to deal with, IF you keep your purchases under $100 (which is really hard to do!).

Likely best to get him to check the export laws of his country before you do too much convincing.

I should have asked this earlier, what kind of gun is it for ie. type of stock?

No legal issue there on either side, but unfortunately you are still at the mercy of the seller.

Having just dealt with this i can say 100% that the US authorities will restrict any part that ships into canada with the exception of shotgun parts and antiques weapons (pre 1898).
In my case a lee enfield original wood stock.......... Even parts require an export permit not just whole rifles. And all arrangements for export have to be made by an American.

And
And Numrich has a $200 limit unlike Brownell's $100 MAX........the Marlin stocks were around $70 with recoil pad I think?Harold..........both have the $25 export fee but if you need the parts get together with someone else that needs a little to save more $$$$$$$

Not much exciting just the package was stopped at the border and was found not having the proper export permit. I was given a number to call and told everything except shotguns and antiques needs to have proper export permits. I would imagine numrich is a registered exporter and so there won't be any problem.
It was very strange as i purchase a barrel for a mauser 8mm off ebay from ny and there was no problems.
Cheers
