Default European Mount

Can anybody suggest a good place to take a deer to get a european mount? Or is it something I could do myself?

The YouTube tutorials are excellent. I would recommend skinning and taking off as much meat as possible. This will greatly reduce the boil time. Be very careful of the nose bones if you want to keep them intact. A

Default Euro Mount Option...

Saw something new at Bass Pro recently that's a fake plastic version of a skull so you can make a Euro mount by just sawing off the antlers and screwing it to the base. Looked pretty slick and the tagline was something like "no beetles, no boiling, no mess".

I used to pay a buddy a couple hundred per deer to do it, and they looked great, but this was like $25-$30 (I think) and looked like the same thing.

Worth checking out. Could save you a pile of work!

I think they are $50.00 from Cabelas. I had to use one last year after taking a headshot on my buck. He was lying down, only shot I had.

Here is a picture with a real one and the plastic one. Most people prefer the real one.

Doing it yourself is really not that hard, just takes alot of time and I hope you have an outside burner you can use. The deer head soup can get pretty stinky.

I just did one, as mentioned above there is some very good youtube vids that walk you through the whole process. You can boil the whole head in tack but as mentioned it much quicker to remove the skin and as much meat as possible. It's not hard to do and didn't take much time so I couldn't justify paying the $200 and up I was quoted from all the taxidermist I contacted. Of course you need a wife (better yet not having one) that doesn't mind having a deer head boiling in a pot at the house lol.
