Anybody have their wainwright draws for his year. How's the population and how much snow is up there, if any of the locals read this. Thanks

My son and I are going in the first rifle season. I left booking a motel till late yesterday and we are forced to stay in IRMA.

It will be good that there is snow on the ground and perhaps there will be some new snow soon.

Older snow shows where the deer have been traveling a lot. A skiff of newer snow shows where they have been traveling recently. Scrapes without the new snow show they are active. Having snow in the bush makes seeing deer easier. If the snow has a little "crunch" to it in makes it easier to hear deer coming.

yes definitely snow out there, and not just a skiff. Now how fresh I don't know as I left on the 4th.

No new snow, was melting a bit yesterday and warm today. I have been told that this is the last year for the range hunt.

Thats a bummer, I was hoping to go 2014 for first rifle season. I wonder if this is true if thats a permanent or temporary closure?

I wasn't in Wainwright, but not too far from there, and there is probably a minimum of 4" of snow everywhere, and in some spots in the bush, a few inches more.

Just got back from there... more snow than you would think. Big time drifts were the problem getting around. Good luck! Lots of game up there.

Deer numbers are still down, way down, lots of early snow this year won't help. Hoping as well, for everyone , it is only temporary until the herds build back up, but that will be awhile with guys still shooting 3 does a year.....

Default wainwright

I live south of Wainwright. There's lots of snow, almost too much in places. Everyone around here are all asking the same question, where's all the whitetails?, Numbers are way, way, down. Mulies not so bad. Between the winter of 2010 and the insane amount of tags and extended seasons, it looks like SRD has almost completed their objective in this area. Good luck though, I hope you have a great time.

Is it for sure that they are closing the base hunt or is it just a possibility? I've heard the rumors but didn't know if they were 100% true?

As far as i know they took the cwd tags away. I know i could only buy one tag this year and that was my general tag. Sorry hal but im not sure where they are still shooting three doe's. Unless maybee inside the base this is still possible. Lots of deer still around, just got to work for them. The rut seems to be kicking into high gear around wainwright now.

sorry, didn't mean specifically this area, they have done their damage here, they are now moving on to hand out tags like candy on Hall'o'Ween to their next victims in neighboring southern zones....
