I believe that was part of the idea behind the "Buck For Wildlife" program a lot of years ago.
Alberta Fish and Game Association came up with the idea and some MLA agreed to push for it if he could claim it was his idea.
When it was in operation the provincial government hesitated to use it to purchase land at first. Lots of good habitat projects came out of it though.
Then the money was turned over to a non-government organization to use (the Alberta Conservation Association).
The Alberta Fish & Game Association buys land for wildlife habitat protection, as do a few other organizations.
