Default I need some advise from gunsmith's

I have a commercial Belgian FN large ring mauser in 30-06 (60,200 psi max) I was thinking about rebarreling to 375 ruger (62,000 psi max). I would like to know if it could handle the pressure increase? I think I have the FN supreme action with the sako trigger but I'm not sure. It would need the bolt face opened up, possibly a new follower and feed ramp mods? I was wondering about a 1 in 12 twist 24" tube. Would a McMillan or boyd's laminate stock need crossbolts installed? I'm not a hawkeye fan so I don't want to buy a ruger and it would be nice to have something different that's worth passing down to my son later on.

It will handle the pressure just fine. It will require some work to ensure positive feeding. A crossbolt or a dowel just behind the magazine well is a good idea on a laminated stock. They tend to split there. A good job of glassbedding behind the recoil lug will take care of the stock at that point. Leeper

Thank you, I was hoping it could handle it. Now I just need to start saving $$ money for a shilen barrel and order a stock.

I doubt if the feed rails will have to be re-done, will they , if he goes with the 9.3?
Oldbadger has one and it's a pretty cool cartridge.

X2 plus it's a cartridge with some history.

It doesn't appeal to me as much, I have thought about the 9.3 and would rather go with the 375. Its one of those I should have built what I wanted in the first place rather than go the easier and cheaper way. Except for this time I probably won't loose money selling what I built first to build what I want. The 9.3 just isn't calling my name as loud as the 375.

The 375 Ruger, though not real common yet, is at least, a current factory cartridge. As such, it makes sense to build it over some which are wildcats (like the 375 Chatfield-Taylor) or moribund; like the 358 Norma (which I really like, by the way). The 375 Ruger works quite well in a Mauser with modifications which are relatively simple to accomplish.
The 9.3x62 ( a 35 Whelen plus .008") is a nice cartridge but it ain't a 375. Leeper

That's a great action, always thought that they were a real piece of class!

I thought about the 358 Norma mag, I like that cartridge. Its impressive but I have a 338 win mag that fills that mid bore need. I looked at the 416 Ruger too. I have found some reports of those bullets tend to sit farther into the casing and take away some performance compared to the longer cased 416's. I could always long throat the chamber to beat that problem. I don't want to have to be stuck in another country without ammo because the airline lost my special handloads. I think the 375 Ruger will meet all my needs for use here in North America and in Africa when the time comes.
