Registration of Ice huts
Is it time? Huts should have a registration if left on the ice.
Every year huts are left out.
They have to be removed by fish and wildlife guys. Wouldn't their time be better spent on enforcement instead of babysitting?
What do you think?
I am for registration then if left they send you a bill.

My brother in laws fishing hut was dragged off the lake in Manitoba last week. He has to pay $150 to get it back.

I dont like the registration idea... You should have to leave your phone number and fishing licence number. Just like crab pots on the coast.

registration could be free, some guys would leave false info on the hut.

There should be some sort of permit required. Free of charge tho. Name, Win #, phone number. $750 ticket, mailed to your house/put on your name, so its not optional, go to get reinsured and have the ticket pop up.
You should have to pick them up from CT/BPS/F&W, have them print it out and put it in a plastic sleeve that you nail to the door.

Hate to break it to you but there is no "free" registration when it comes to anything affiliated with the government....

I have no problem with a user fee. To offset the cost of the permit.

NOOOOOOOO! now I am devastated. I am sure they could find a way. And if not don't allow permanent huts unless they are registered. I don't say this because mine is portable, I would approve even if I had a permanent one.

I think registration would take away from our already spread thin conservation officers. They already have enough to look after, registration would be a waste. Guaranteed most people wouldnt do it anyways. Did everyone register there long rifles when it was manditory?

I noticed that SRD made a post on here reminding everyone, so lets hope every one gets them off or we will have to do the reg thing. Like always a few bad apples.........
And by bad apples, I mean the guys that don't take theirs off in time and go down.

YES to some sort of tracking record....
Or soon...all permanent huts will be banned because of trash breaders.
My hut comes down this wknd...aint easy, but I would never leave it to be lake trash

I don't think the conservation officers or fish and wildlife officers do it I think it's Alberta environment that removes nd or burns them down .

Usually fish and wildlife officers that pull them off. At least with registration they know who to send the bill for removal.
When they come to check your licence they can check reg on the hut. Not registered ticket and removal. Not many are going to build then let it be removed.
Even if it is Alberta Environment that removes them there is still a cost.

You are probably right, and I know for a fact that everyone did not register their rifles.

How much staff do they have? Im sure they dont have a big budget, or a growing budget for that matter. Pretty difficult to enforce. Thats why I say make people leave there phone number and license number, just like crab pots on the coast (might be adress with them I dont recall exactly) Is it perfect? no. Neither is registration... But its a start, and there wouldnt be any fees.

Agreed that F&W COs are spread to thin. That is why anything (free) that compels the owners to get them off in time is worth it. I would much rather see them spending their time enforcing registration/removal rather than risking their lives pulling huts off of unsafe ice!

Like I said, first time they are checked, no Registration = Ticket + removal from the lake. People do not want to go through building them to have them removed. Very easy to enforce.

I would say like others there is good and bad everywhere.
But if they do a registration system would be good. But as a fine. There should come with a five year suspension of their fishing rights. That would hit home.
What you think

Agreed - for a minimal fee to print out a online registration card, after registering your win card and details and put it in a sleeve on your hut would be very minimal in cost for the SRD.
This program can be administered by a third party like the AFGA if needed.
Depending on the way it's formatted - it could display as much or as little information each user wanted to display.
Simple registration data base - the nerds at work can make one in less than an hour ......... and there would be minimal cost in administering the database. The database could be accessed via portal for CO's, RCMP, SRD or whomever needs to know ....

You could hide your rifle in the closet, unless you own a lake in your closet you can't set your ice shack up.
Ice shack goes up and registration goes on the front. No registration and the shack gets taken.
Manitoba has a registration system.

Isnt that what the Liberal's said when they started the gun registry? Granted im sure there is alot less ice shacks in Alberta than guns in Canada...

Nothing wrong with defending what one says is there? Oops, darn I asked you a question.
Would you rather discuss paint drying or another topic?
Pick how you would like the poll worded. Your choice.

Just make it legal to claim or burn any shacks left on the ice after March 31....finders keepers.

Probably the best idea yet! I retract my previous view and now go by this problem solved. Love your way of thinking lefty.
