Best route from Calgary to Vancouver
What do you think is the best route to Vancouver from Calgary with the TransCanada closed at Canmore?
1.) Crowsnest all the way to Hope or
2.) Highway 22 to Rocky Mountain House, Highway 11 to The Ice Fields Highway, south on 93 to Lake Louise then back onto the TransCanada.
Thanks for your input! Heading out tomorrow.

Thanks for your advice. Google maps is not aware of the closure at Canmore and further more it indicates there are tolls which is obviously out of date. Has anyone travelled the routes suggested in my post and do they have any feedback. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be shorter to go through the Crowsnest Pass? I can't speak for the road conditions currently, but your second route choice seems to go a little out of the way.

To the OP's question: I think you would be best to go Crowsnest to Vancouver, from what I understand Sparwood is down to one lane but once you are clear of that it's clear sailing. It is a slower route(#3) than highway 1 but having to go all the way back up doesn't seem worth it and would eat up the time you would save on the #1.

A friend of mine just did the jasper route to Sicamous. Added 3 hours. I think going crowsnest will add alot more time to get to vancouver.

Yea it certainly seems out of the way but when you add up the kilometers and speed limits, lane closures, etc. the numbers seem to favor by-passing Canmore using Highway 11 and 93. I have driven the Crowsnest to Oliver before and although the drive was beautiful it took forever with all the twists and turns. Just wondering if anyone has actually driven both routes to compare or if anyone has been on either route since the flood. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! I think it is going to be pretty close between the two and since I have not been on Highway 11 west of Rocky I am going to give that a try. Once you eventually get on to the Coquihalla you can give 'er' and make up some of the lost time. You don't get that opportunity on the Highway 3 as far as I know. Thanks again and safe driving to everyone over the summer.

Did 93 from sask river crossing to Jasper on Saturday. Smooth sailing.

During the flood I thought one of the roads closed was the ice field parkway, due to a mud slide. Maybe do some digging, it may be open now. Good luck.

Quickest way is Calgary --> Red Deer--> rocky mt house--> south on 93 to Lake Loiuse--> Hwy1 to Vancouver.
Hwy 93 is open.

Hwy 93 was closed from Saskatchewan Crossing to Lake Louise for a few days, but re-opened on Sunday for personal vehicles and tour buses.
A few good resources:

Crowsnest all the way is a beautiful drive, maybe one of the most scenic drives in the world (I did it a few years ago) but it is definitely the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way!
