I have led christmas lights in mine and run them off of a battery booster pack with an inverter at night. Doesn't make it really bright but its nicer than running a generator when you want to stay out a bit later. A coleman lantern is good to have too when you need that extra light.

Do you have a hitch or tow rope on one end just in case you want to move it later in the season, wether it be just a few yards or a further distance. Or even one that you can put on or remove as needed.

It has a hitch, I have to change the coupler though. I also have to weld or install some i-bolts in the front and rear frames for the winch on/off procedure though.

One of those little 8-12' seacans would make a great shack. 20' even better.

I have a 40' but it's tough to haul

Default my unit

This is my baby, has taken about 4 years to get it to this point, but has been worth the effort. fold down double bunk, hide a bed, 4'x 2 1/2' hole, propane heater (100lb bottle lasts 3 weeks on low, and the hole never freezes even in -30) one of the best places I've ever taken a nap. wired for power from a generator. Comfort for the wife means more days on the ice!

That makes too much sense.

Ok, now I gotta find a little ladder, some hinge........

I actually thought of that, but haven't done anything about it yet.

Maybe I should take Hal's advice and put in a dome.
Maybe an old attic access door with the ladder built in?

I like the overhead rod holders!

I suggest adding a 1/2" high lip around each shelf because in my experience anything that gets dropped will find the holes. A few cup hooks on the walls by the holes are great for a small landing net, fish gripper pliers and rods you are keeping handy for use. The magnet is a good idea and I have a 10/0 treble hook with the points ground off, with lead wrap around the shaft and painted white so I can use it as a grapple for retrieving rods, spectacles and the like that invariable go to the bottom despite our best efforts to prevent. I saved a friend's new $400 specs on one occasion! You could fashion a grapple by soldering some coat hanger wire together and adding weight.

My new shack has plexiglas windows with horizontally-sliding plywood panels to block out the light.

I have a catalytic propane heater on a 20 lb tank. It is in the corner farthest from the door and fastened securely to the walls. By the location, nobody would have to get by it to exit the shack if it caught fire for any reason. Always safety first.

Oldman dropped his glasses once downhole, when he went out for a smoke I was holding them. Happy day for him. I always have a big treble hook now, and there is a BIG magnet stuck to the wall ready for whatever goes glunk.
