You will be fine Mike. We were out on Saturday 2hrs northwest of town. Only about 3 1/2 inches but very hard and solid. No snow cover made it a hard day for fishing but the ice was great.

Hey bigbore,

Went out to Chickakoo today, around 5 1/2 inches of ice up to 6 inches.
Drilled 3 holes.

Ice is cracking good, always does this time of year. Take your chances my man its still too early to be venturing to far out. I stuck relatively close to shore was fishing in around 5-6 fow. And only out around 20 feet.

Here's a pic from today...

Had some luck to, between the gf and I we landed 5 in about an hour. Then the ice gave on of those loud cracks that makes yer heart pound and she was off and heading towards the truck.... with me soon behind her....lol
