Human Urine - Does it attract white tail bucks?
I had an 'oltimer tell me today to pee in a jug and let it sit for a week. then take the jug of pee and pour it on the ground where i am hunting. he says it will bring in "so many deer you will need a machine gun!".
does human urine attract deer? i know that i pee very close to my blind. i have left apples right where i have been laying and peeing (but not laying in my pee) and the deer have taken the apples...
what are your thoughts?

ive heard the opposite. one of the oposed stories is if you pee around your house (do not try this at home... unless its dark ) or your land it helps repel any animals away as it is an unnatural scent.

I was once watching a cutline from my truck when nature called. I took a dump on the other side of the cutline which was about 30 ft wide. About a hour later a doe and fawn walked right beside the truck and sniffed the crap for about 5 minutes before carrying on. I guess it must have smelled like roses.

I have made mock scrapes with me "freshening" them with the remnants of my mornings coffee. One of the best whitetails I killed with my bow was on a scrape that I made 15 yards from my stand. He came cruising by and went right over to the scrape I "freshened" 1 hour earlier. Until you try it you won't believe it. When I originally heard about this I did not believe it. I first tried it in a scrape that was not close to my stand and the next day is was torn up! After that I made a mock scrape under a tree that looked like a scrape should be there and it became a scrape as big as a bath tub.

After a very short time any pheramones in deer urine disipate, and you are left with pretty basic stuff!
I went to a tree farm down south one year to help out the farmer who was having deer trouble.
he tried everything, human hair hung in trees , mothballs, all the so-called tricks.
I explained to him that he was dealing with conditioned deer, and that stuff would not bother them.
he had some shacks on the property , and near some cherry trees I laid out some urine that I had collected over the past few days, and made up a mock scrape.
The next morning the scrape was over twice its size, and there had been at least four different deer that we could see that had used it.
needless to say there was a few taken from it in a few animals short days!
Does anyone remember Michigan Outdoors?
Fred Trost proved decisively that deer lure was a gimmick, and that any ol' urine would work.
I especially liked the Aqua Velva scrape - the deer wents nutz on it!!

They aren't attracted by any other form of human scent. I'm not sure why human urine would do it. I always try to urinate far away from where I'm going to hunt. I have no real knowledge of the issue one way or the other though. You sure the old guy wasn't pulling your leg?

I was always brought up to never pee near my hunting area! BUT I was talking with another hunter this fall who has done the mock scrape thing and pee'd in it. Said it worked good. I have also talked to several guy that pee out of their stands and still kill deer there.
I am going to have to try this myself next yr.
YOu know, look what tinks has done for them selves....... A guy could start an new brand/sent ....... Call it the ultimate scrape. Put a "NEW SCENT" sticker on it.... Probably sell like crazy!!!!

X 2 on what the Cat is saying
Urine is just chemicals. I don't believe animals can detect that is is human in origin. Animals will stop and smell urine wherever they find it. ....and I don't believe that they can distinguish what animal left it there unless there is some other component in it like pheremones. I'll pee into the wind on my treestand right underneath my tree.
As far as attracting deer..... as in bring them in, no. But a fresh whiz will stop them in their tracks for a sniff. Now thats a good thing. Whiz on the trail in shooting lanes or in a scrape and they will stop for you. Thats my experience.

Not sure about deer, but if you have a cat pee problem in your garden then pee where they pee and they will stop. it is the larger aniaml thing I think. I remember when my wife was pregnant and I had her pee in the garden, not more cat problem for the rest of the year.
As for the deer it is hard to say without trying it yourself, but I do agree with them stopping to smell it. gives oyu the chance at a shot

Marking your Territory
Hi Guys,
A few years ago a friend of mine was bowhunting from a tree stand and of course he saw absolutely nothing.
It was getting late and thoughts of packing it in for the day were starting to percolate in his brain. Being a safety conscious guy he lowered his bow to the ground with a rope and then contemplated for a few minutes as to whether he should stick it out until the bitter end or just drop the rope and come down himself.
Well as soon as he dropped the rope, he caught some movement out of the corner of his eye and when he carefully looked over he saw one of the biggest bucks he'd ever seen. With no way to retrieve his bow his only option was to just sit and watch. The buck came right on over underneath the tree stand and sniffed the bow. Of course he had a bright idea and since he couldn't shoot the buck, he whipped it out gave the buck a golden shower. The buck became rather annoyed, snorted, stomped and then trotted off out of view.
Moral of the story, is never give up hunting until you've exhausted all possibilities
Cheers,
Elk Hunter 55 (now 57 )

Yup, big ol' Sh$t storm for sure!
Fred made the mistake of attacking the makers of buck Stop lures, and IIRC, even though he was able to show that the whole lure thing is a sham, it was the personal attack on buck stop themselves that cost him a pile of dough and all the other stuff.
simply amazing, a guy proves something but goes about it the wrong way and gets sued!!

I pee on my moch scrapes all the time at my trail cams.
I get buck pictures all the time.
One time I even took a dump on one. I got 2 pictures on that camera,
first was a buck just about to step in my poo,
second one was him shaking his foot trying to get the poo off.
If I could only dig up those pictures.....
OK, just kidding on the poo thing LOL.

Being new to the whole hunting thing (2yrs in) with very little guidance from any older family members it's been a lot of trial and error for us. That being said Dustin is always adament about me not contaminating our hunting spots..I have small kidneys! So we always made pit stops before we got to where we needed to set up for deer. Well this yr after the whole kidney stone debacle I have to drink at least 3 liters of fluid a day forever....not very condusive to holding it, my new hunting pack has a water bladder built in for that specific purpose of making sure I drink. But I tried really hard to hold tru to the don't contaminate the site rule. While still hunting opening weekend Dustin was at one end and I was at the other of a field and I just could not hold it any longer, my eyes were tearing up, I was doing the dance and it was still 45 mins to light. So I trotted off about 50yrds from where I was set up and into the thick stuff and pee'd. Not 10 freakin mins later this giant buck came crashing into the bush, snorting and grunting like the big dirty bugger he was and checked out my 'scrape'! My heart was just a racing but I could not get a shot at all bc I peed in the thickest bush I could find! When we went up 2 weeks later there were multiple scrapes around 'my' area and the deer trail now went right by it! From now on I'm being at will in the bush!

thanks for the input. I am filling a jug now. I am going to do a test this weekend. i have talked to a few of the seasoned hunters in my community and they all said they pee around their stand or blind.
Thanks again

At the family hunting camp in Ontario, when they field dress an animal they take a needle to the bladder and fill up the scent jars for the next year.

Not sure that it attracts them but it sure doesn't scare them off I make mock scrapes and pee in them and have watched many does and bucks come up and sniff away without any sign of apprehension In fact nailed a 10 point buck with bow few weeks ago that was standing sniffing a scrape i had made few days before and freshened up myself that morning. He was calm and sniffing away
I saw a TV show a number of years ago where the host pee'd in snow and then put out some deer scent a few feet away, vanilla, a few more feet away and another scent I can't recall again close by The buck came by sniffing and stopped at the human pee and pawed it vigourously, basically ignoring the others so it sure doesn't bother them The wenzel's brothers experimented lots with peeing and pooping out of tree stands onto deer and said it didn't scare them
If you wnt to make a lot of mock scrapes buy a gallon of ammonia cleaner, pee in it and shake You have a gallon of great scrape attractant that costs about $2 better than one ounce of doe in heat pee that costs $9 and same results

I used to work for a outfit that dr.James Kroll was a regular..he told an average man has the same fat content in his urine as a mature wt buck..I've ****ed in many scrapes and when i return to pick up my camera i've had up to 15 different bucks visit the scape..all age groups..also he said that a buck will get his antler configuration from his father and his width from his moms father ..any else hear of this??????????????

I revisited this theory on the weekend... i had a feeling there was a buck hanging around in the background but no pictures of him. i laid out some apples and poured some apple juice around the pile. about ten yards away i made a small scrape and poured a litre of week old pee on it. this morning my scrape was three times the size with lots of impressions in the ground around it (circling it). alas.. still no picture on the trail cam which was pointed at the apples... it's now pointed at the freshly peed in scrape...
to be continued...

If Dr,James Charles Kroll said that was the way, you can bet it wasn't an "old wive's tale"! he was one of the profession's most revered white tailed deer biologists.
I would assume that he had studied the gene make up and pedigree of numerous deer to come to his conclusions, but i can only guess at that.
