Ok funny true story about canoe hunting....

My buddy has a canoe and we decided we would drift the river to get to an elk spot named aptly enough elk point. I really am not such a fan of canoes but decided ok..my buddy invited a friend... so there were three of us. We load the canoe and go down to the river.... It was decided I would be in the front so we put canoe into river on a faily steep bank and I handed my bow to my buddy and precariously make my way to the front. As I sit there on the front seat I realise the anchor rope is wrapped over my foot so I gently lift my foot and move the anchor rope slightly... transfreing weight to my left side....meanwhile second guy loading passes his bow to the guy at the back holding the canoe and first guy lets go... and suddenly SLOUW-ZO.... I am in the water upside down tangled in a canoe, anchor rope and arms are shoulder deep in loon-****..... I am underwater...tangled all up and arms pinned so i did the next logical thing which was to go into a full bore PANIC and flail around trying to get my arms free... in the commotion the second guy who is laughing at my predicament gets pulled into the river and is knee deep in the loon****.....

Finally I get one arm free and manage to make my way to the shore looking like a fat salamander that has been mud wrestling. My buddy is on shore and is paralyzed by laughter. As I come out of the water looking for something or somebody to heave into the water he decided the better part of valour was to retreat.

I decided at that point canoe hunting was better left to experts...

Had two great interviews today with two awesome AO members!

But I definitely still need a couple of good photos that depict how a canoe can be used in a hunt.

If you have any I might be able to use, please pm me and I will send you my email address.

Thanks again everyone!

Please pm me if you're interested in a brief interview about your hunting experiences that have anything to do with a canoe. Or post here with your stories and/or tips and I can contact you.

Thanks for the help everybody!
I blew away ducks and geese from a canoe a few times. Personally, I find it a bit dangerous and your beer spills easily.

Default canoe trip

Two guys were in a canoe when they decided to throw a rope around the neck of a cow moose swimming across a lake and get free tow ,but when the moose hit the shore the guy in the front was to slow cutting the rope and the moose took off with all their gear and split in the bush drag their canoe behind the moose. The next year the 2 same guys went back to that same lake and were walking the shoreline when they heard bunch of noise and when they turned to see what it was the saw that same moose still dragging their canoe with a calf sitting in the canoe, they were in shock at what they were seeing.......

Nice story, but I need the pics.

No seriously. I really need photos.

If you have canoe photos, or even hunting by water photos, or anything that might work, and you don't mind having them published in a magazine, please pm me.

I can still remember the first spring my lab Jäger seen water he must have been about 7 months old and there is a runoff near our place I was trying to show him the water and he was running around all amped up and ran past me and did what I can best describe as a dog cannon ball right into the water.....he sank lol but quickly learned how to swim and came up just flailing like someone getting dunked.
He was pretty quick to get out and I was worried that might have scared him of water .....nope two seconds later he was back in. Cant' keep him out of the water now and is the strongest swimming dog I have ever owned out swims my other lab two to one and any other dog at the dog park or lake.
