Can we put this to bed. It's not a coon, it's a mink, and not even that big of one based on the .22 shell. Nuff said!

I you had another pic of the gate and left & right spread we could id it. Porcupine had long claws on the front and dig deep in the sand. You should see a bit of the porcupines tail lightly drag also I don't know up north but down here you follow porc tracks it wont be long til they will chew on willow here and there. Coon's rear pad is only noticeable in soft mud or soft sand. Couple of years ago I was quite perplexed with coon tracks I had no idea what they were then I seen some in the mud and I set a trap and bam got him. I am no expert on mink I know martin front L&R are side by side and Rear L&R are side by side like bounding.

hold on a sec. tonnage. it was not a .22 shell but a .22 mag which if i recall (don't use .22 mag) is probably 3-4 times larger then a .22.

Too funny. The baffling tracks. Stuff legends are made of.
My guess is a small river otter. Any signs of a tail drag?

Not an Otter
Defiantly not an Otter. The webbing between toes cannot be missed.

Fishers are side by side like a weasel. The also have hairy feet, and this would show up well in the sand/mud...

If that track came from off the marsh head creek then it is a mink or porcupine. For sure not a coon. Catch a big male mink right behind the cabins 20 + years ago.

Agreed. I think some people don't realize how big a Buck Mink can be. Mink over 2 feet stretched are not uncommon at all. A 24" long Mink has feet a lot bigger that a muskrat. Just my OP.
