Opening Day Snowstorm Duck Hunt

Wow, 4 of us limited out in a little over an hour in a snow storm. Mostly mallards, but a few pintails. I'm glad it was over quick, we were getting some cold out there. Gotta love Alberta weather!

Right on boys! Ducks were the same for us, mallards galore and a few pins. No snow on the ground here at the moment but that's gonna change really quick!

Was an ugly morning for sure! The duck action was good, we managed a few mallards, but the geese didn't want to cooperate. Maybe another hunt tomorrow...basically the same forecast.

I had a lot of fun this AM. Jumped one bunch of ponds in one area, then one single pond. Only saw maybe a couple of hundred birds going out to feed, there were a lot that stayed on the big roost until at least 9;00am.
There were some honkers loafing around a pond in a peafield, about the same number I saw go out. Training on the dog all summer seems to have paid off, he worked really nicely today, was really pleased with him.
He did take a run after a big hare on the way back out, he gave up on that PDQ, was like watching the Roadrunner hit the afterburners, Tuck never stood a chance, but, he enjoyed a very wet & windy morning, got to retrieve 7 ducks.

Welcome to Alberta, and this is nothing! It is only September, Indian summer.

When the wind blows and the weather is a "duck day" you will see birds like you won't believe, but you need to be warm!
