Default Missouri River

Hey Guys,

Am headed down to Craig MT for the long weekend to do a few floats of the river. Have any of you guys ever been and if so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Galspal

Check out Headhunter's Fly Shop Blog, they are located in Craig, great source of info for the Mighty Mo.

Enjoy, it is a great river to fish.

Had a blast down there this spring. Lots of different floats to do, from a couple hours to all day sessions. Pretty easy river to row, and the fishing is great!

I second Headhunters. We go every April and Headhunters is our go to shop.

Make sure to hit Izaak's for some BBQ and Joes bar for some wobblypops.

Headhunters blog is always up to date. http://www.headhuntersflyshop.com/

Many of the rivers in the area are fishing really well on small dries right now. Was out two days ago and caught them non stop on the dry. bwo cripples, midges etc. Lots to be had on dries right now.

I go down there a few times a year with the drift boats.
I have found the best time and float, is right from the dam to Craig just before dark, it is quite short, but if you have time at the end of the day I would recommend hitting it.
The rising action is unbelievable, but what worked best for our group was small, small, did I say small? emergers.
Also our one outfit was dancing a rubber legs and it had some action as well.
I also recommend headhunters, great store and great guys, but all 4?!! flyshops in town will point you in the right direction.
Have Fun, enjoy the float!

I drive past there every January and April. Would it be worth a couple of hours to stop at wolf creek bridge and toss a fly or two from shore in April?

Absolutely. Also if you drive down stream from there 5 min there is a place you can pull off and walk down to the river, where a cliff(hill) juts out into the river, you can walk down either side and have good runs.
