Default Moving to Banff

Or can I?

I'm so frickin tired of this Arizona no trees, no grass unless it's a golf course, no running water unless it's the Monsoon season and a rain storm just came through and it's flooding through the desert! So tired of all these crusty faced old people! So tired of the girls here who want to party with blo and tan in 112F degree heat. I'm done! I'm outta here!

But there is a "need to reside" thingy in Banff and I work from home on the phone and computer. Not exactly a need to reside. Furthermore there is basically zero "online" good options I can find to live. I'm not a down and out ski bum from Australia ski instructing for the winter in any crap apt with 3 other guys. I'd like a nice 2 or 3 bedroom Condo. Or a nice house.

Canmore is not an option as it's full of lame Calgary weekenders. I want to be in Banff. I've looked on and posted on Kijjiji, and the local paper Crag and Canyon.

Short of flying in and standing on the corner holding a sign...I'm up for all suggestions.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

To fit in at Banff, make sure your running shoes are SOOO white, you have a Japanese camera around your neck at all times, squint your eyes like your from Osaka, and complain that you can't find Ann of green Gables. You should fit right in.

Why don't you move to Arizona Zulu? You can exchange offensive stereotypes with BanfforBust?

Somewhere there is a bridge missing its troll.

Trust me if you really lived in AZ you wouldn't want to be moving back unless you didn't have a choice. Trust me on this one.

So would I.

Most people can't afford to live in the Rockies unless they are really rich.

Why is that Sako?

With the coming snow storm and 20 to 30cm possible snow...I'd happily trade in my snow shovel to look at girls that want to party in 112F degree heat...

You won't be able to get in to Banff, Vauxhall is your best second bet. Good luck.

May I suggest moving to North Battleford Sk? Lots of trees, you got the North Sask River and Battle river flowing water all year long and nobody there has enough money to buy blow so you don't have to worry about that anymore! Most people die of there alcoholism long before they become "crusty faced old people" Plus there is beautiful Table Mountain only 30 minutes away. Cost of living will be a lot cheaper. Seems like a win-win to me!

And you think Banff is the place to move to avoid seeing a daily dose of 'white girl drunk'?

Haven't decided whether the OP or this post is more offensive.... I thought racism/race stereostyping wasn't allowed on this board

So you are choosing to live in a destination much more crowded filled with many more tourists.

To live in Banff you need to be comfortable with all sorts of different people from around the world, and lots of them. After reading your rant about other people in Arizona and Canmore that bother you, I'm not sure you fit that profile.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I am assuming you are an American. If so, maybe some more isolated place in Montana or similar would suit you. Not many people around, no immigration or residence issues. Good luck.

Cool

Having lived in the Bow Valley (Lake Louise/Banff/Canmore) for five years, I can tell you that quality/affordable housing will be an issue long into the future. Lake Louise is geared exclusively to employer-provided housing, Banff less-so, and, Canmore is free-market realty- as it is outside the park boundary. What you get for your money is never a true bargain, and, if it is existing housing maintenance has to be suspect as the environs are harsh and quality tradesmen are expensive. Summers can be frustrating with tourist traffic jams and road clearing may not be up to snuff in winters. Propane heating only in some area, limited high-speed Internet and regular trips to Canmore or Calgary for supplies are some other considerations.

I would do some research and in-person scouting before making the leap.

PS- lots of scams on Kijiji for Bow Valley housing rentals. Watch out.

Looking for a change, I know where you can find a place. I believe it's empty at the moment; try here.

Great views, one bed room, wood stove, great back country skiing, fishing and moose hunting is reported to be excellent.

Lots of shade trees in the yard. Great wildlife viewing area. Close to a national park. very quiet your nearest neighbour is 30 miles away.
Burn barrel in front yard, some fold up chairs left behind from hikes for your convince. (under the snow at the moment)

Live rent free!

Not many ethnic folks in the immediate are: like temporary foreign workers, tourists or Calgarians that offend you. Banff is kind of out of the question as Zulu pointed out...you don't have the secret white shoe polish recipe, and I'm not sharing the formula.
