Almost all of the southern reservoirs are full of whitefish. Get out early in the morning and fish sandy flats to start, really not that hard to catch once you figure them out. I find a red wireworm tipped with a maggot is key in most of the southern reservoirs.

Brown fly with maggot. The maggot is the key. Attach it to a AAA battery and they'll hit it. I caught a 6 lbs Rocky Mtn Whitefish in the Red Deer River many years ago. I think it could have challenged for the provincial record. I released it. But I still claim bragging rights for having the provincial record.

Was making a point. Whitefish can smell the maggot.

Put a maggot on a brown fly, or any other of the lures mentioned above and you'll nail them all day long. No maggot, no fish. With maggot, you'll limited in an hour.

I think the huh was for the aaa battery. Attach it where. Do you use metal line. do you charge the maggot? why a AAA and not a c,d , AA, 24c whatever. Explain yourself please...
thanks.

I have never had any luck with the whole wire worm thing. For me its always been Cicada's and so far this year they have been smashing the smallest size silver and chartreuse Kastmaster. no bait, just jig it.

I don't use a maggot with my yellow wire worm and I still catch whitefish. i think movement is the key to success. BEL
