Depends if you are wanting to to save fur, .204 ruger, .223 rem, 220 swift, 22-250 rem, just to name a few.

How could you make a 30 06 work for coyotes?

There are 125 grain bullets for 30-06. Lighter lead, less damage. You would have to resight your gun in for the lighter lead.

There are 55 grain accelerator bullets for a 30-06 too. They are not very accurate though. Pretty fast.

Personally I love the 222 rem but you need to reload for that. I have a 17 hornet that got 6+ yotes last winter. Perfact if you want to save the pelts but again you gotta reload for it.

Had my heart set on 243.....but the more I think about it, I might go for the 22-250, or the 223.... For pelt sake...

Do they still make those accelerators? I haven't seen them in years. Too many low priced rifles now in the varmint calibers that most guys don't feel the need to multipurpose their main rifle. Most of us like having multiple guns!

I'm a big supporter of the .223 Remington. I've used mine extensively for coyote out to 350 yards. I've heard good things about the 22-250 and .243 win. The biggest thing to take into consideration is range, and fur damage. Anything in the .30 caliber range is excessive.

There does seem to be a shortage of 22-250 ammo everywhere I've been. But I bought 5 boxes last year and still have 1 and a half left... should last me for a month or so. I'm heading to Cabelas tomorrow so I'll check there too. I would say go with thatever you like. They are all decent calibers. I shoot 22-250 right now and really like it out to about 600yds. But I have also been thinking of getting a .223 just to try it. Can't really go wrong.

If 30-06 is your regular rifle, by all means use it. Use fmj for pelt damage. The more you use your rifle, the better you will know it.

.223 if you want to save damage on pelts up close,, 22-250 for anything over 300m, unless you can load down for the 250, its that simple...

.223 for anything 0-300m,, 22-250 for anything longer, unless you load down or get the perfect load for the 22-250, its that simple....

.223 is my favourite for coyotes! I also shoot a 22-250, both are fun to shoot just I save more pelts with .223 at closer ranges
