Default Elk Ticks in WMU 234

Just curious how common are ticks in Elk? A friend of mine harvested a cow today in 234 and she was infested with ticks. Anyone else hearing this and will this have a effect on the herd?

Thanks

Turney

More prevalent in moose, but you're right, ticks can be an issue with elk as well. This problem is heightened in females, as gestating (pregnant) or pre-gestating females are impacted by parasite load and can produce smaller/weaker offspring. They themselves, due to high parasite loads, are more prone to winter kill or predation as well.
