Chironomid Fly Fishing
I don't know if I've ever posted on the fly fishing board, so hello. Hope all is well and the fish are biting this weekend. Just thought I'd post up a video from this spring. Bought a fly rod and finally tried some chironomid fishing. Found a bank transition to mud flat where I thought the fish would be cruising and it didn't take long before that little strike indicator was down and it was game on! This was my first time trying so I really wasn't set up for video. Just had my cell phone, but still got some neat shots of some really beautiful and BIG rainbows! Got to love fly fishing. I'll have to mess around with this fly fishing business a little more!

Good on ya man, I love Chironie fishing. It's quite addictive. I highly recommend tying your own Chironomids!
Cheers

I didn't really get too into chironomid fishing until recently, but it's often the most productive method.
try some streamers on those big BC bows too, sometimes they'll just destroy them.
Great video

Thanks guys... yeah I'll have to get into tying some flies. Chronies look pretty basic to tie. So maybe once I find my fly tie stuff in the mess of boxes after our move I'll get to it. For now just have to use the stuff I have.

With your steady doctor hands tying flies should be a breeze.
I don't dare try with my shaky hands... Sure is annoying buying chironomids and other flies at 2-3 bucks a pop though...

I always scratch my head when guys spend hundreds or even thousands on gear but complain about a buck or two for the fly which is the most important part of the set up that the trout sees.

I have over 200 bucks worth of flies and it is still a pretty pathetic selection. 1 or 2 bucks(usually 2-3 for half decent ones) adds up quick.
By the time I get a good set of flies I bet I will have spent 5-600 bucks on them... But I would still rather buy them then try to tie my own, not hard to make 5-600 bucks to cover the cost and saves me a lot of frustration lol.

Listen to what Uncle Lornce has to say.
To prove that he is correct, look how successful Tenkara fish can be.

We're in the lower mainland. Got a house with a private community pond stocked with rainbows every other year. I think I'll try to get it stocked every year for more age class diversity.

Now you need some chromies with black bead heads along with your ice cream cones and you will have 80% of the chronomide fishing flies covered.

Hey Flieguy do the clear glass beads have that silvery material in the hole of the bead so if you move the bead the right way it shines? I've never tried the clear glass bead but it sounds good.
