According to the 2015 Wildlife Regulations, Table 1E, Boreal WMUs 500 Series and 841 Big Game Seasons, WMU 505 and 510 are under a General archery season for Calf only Moose from Sept. 1- Oct. 30.

Now there was a Draw special licence application held for this season, but the OFFICIAL regulations state that it is open under a General licence. Someone is going to be scrambling to try and fix this before the judge says "Nope, he was hunting in a legal general season".

sounds like the barbed hook issue a couple years ago when someone forgot to paste that part of law back into the fishing laws for that year

Confirmed by fish and wildlife (talked to them when I grabbed my trappers license an hour ago), they have a master copy that's shows a draw required and the website will reflect things soon....they thanked me for pointing it out
Just going by what I was told in person...it could be right or wrong, I asked what was correct but and they said it is on draw.....however what you linked is different.
They still have some time for damage control!

yes, but as walking buffalo pointed out, the actual law 'Wildlife Regulation, Alta Reg 143/1997' is incorrect as well
which is the actual legal document

It will likely get sorted....someone missed it out in cyberspace somewhere
It didn't appear in the important changes so I am thinking it is a typo sort of error.

Got drawn in 525 for bull.. With all the logging in the area the roads are like super highways and took the hunting pressure through the roof... It'll be interesting if we fill one tag, let alone two...

Glenn, just for record APOS has a pile of tags in WMU 525. A year or two back I believe they had more moose tags than residents. We hunted it for years but gave up when Outfitters had all the moose tags. Work the high poplar ridges you may still scare up a moose if you put in the time.

it really is unfortunate that even in most of the 500 zones is 3 to 5 years to get drawn for calling season moose.but a non resident can come up every year and hunt.it sucks but thats the Alberta advantage.

You can hunt moose every year too, same way the nonresidents do, just cost lots. Its a crappy deal in general that nonresidents can apply for draws though. Draws are there because the animals can't sustain a general season and the want to control the harvest. If an animal cant be on general it should be on draw for residents only IMO.

don't like this idea at all. I like hunting opportunity, not having to miss out when I get a chance to go out, but oh, we subdivided everything up so much you have no season right now. Nothing prevents crossbow/muzzle loader hunters from enjoying October during the general season currently, (where and when open) so why take away from others who would also enjoy it? Yes we now have a socialist government, but stop trying to make Alberta like Ontario in all other respects.

Cause over night everyone and there uncle will become a muzzle loader and cross bow hunter. You dont want a special crossbow season here, trust me, cause it goes like this....... The day before opening, buy a crossbow, the next day shoot a moose in the azz at 80yards...... Opps
Its a blessing that here in Alberta crossbows are not considered archery tackle.
