You're in the right WMUs to find some elk, but don't expect to get into some without doing some homework first.

Yea I was out in the 400 zone today trying to find some areas but came up with a blank. That being said I am nowhere near giving up.

It's elk.
You have to earn them.
It's almost .... Almost impolite to bluntly ask to point out where they are.
They are for sure in 400. They are hinted hard.
Go where people and quads don't.
Try and hike a good hour from the road.

Good luck

There's lots.
They are hunted hard.
They will be migrating out soon.

Get into the thick nasties. Bulls will be held up there.

You should do your homework. Elk will not come out in the open fields for hunters to shoot. Instead they will hide inside the bushes/forest for hunters to locate.

Cool

Im on year 5, have great permission where I know elk travel and bed at times. In the first three years we seen 4 .lol none of which we could shoot. Last year we found a herd ...basically encompassed by trucks. 5-10 trucks on every access to the section the elk were on . Luckily dark fell and to the best of my knowledge the herd made its escape.
This year we sat and watched 10-30 on a few differnt days. Unfortunately for us we did not get a shot at a legal bull . We seen a couple on differnt occasions and one monster fleetingly in the trees.. if it were easy every one would have 6×6 on the wall ..well other than the people that pay for them .
Good luck , good hunting . Patience is a virtue.

Be aware an Elk is a lot to pack alone at least 5 trips. 1 hour walking in is much more work on the way out with 60lbs of Elk on your back.

I did it in my younger years, its a mind and body testing experience for sure.

Good luck

Yep. 6 trips for me, and I'll be 40 in a few weeks.

Weird.. I had a 5x5 broad side to me in a grain field at 50 yards this fall.. Stopped and looked and me and kept walking north along the fence line... The one I shot was in the same field and managed to find them as they were headin back to the trees..

You think an hour is really all it takes to be pretty much alone or away from the majority of people?
