Just wondering?
I have a question for you guys that know about wild animals. I went fishing at a stocked trout lake this morning. It wasn't much light out and foggy this morning and I seen something running across the lake. It was low to the ground, fairly long and dark. It ran across the lake and went to where the aerator was going and it would disapear underwater then come up on the ice. Then it would disapear then I would see it again but it was too far away to really see what it looked like or was doing. What kind of animal would that be?

I'm more curious as to which lake you were at. Almost every lake has stopped using aerators that creates open water.
Was this lake in Alberta?
Oh, my vote is for a mink.

It was way to big for a muskrat. It was moonshine lake by spirit river. Big snow fence around the aerator. It was at least three feet long or so.would it be eating the fish?

Must have been an otter if it was three feet long. Yes, they eat fish, etc.

If it ran & slid, and ran & slid - it was definitely an otter.

If it was in moonshine lake it is a otter. My friend up there knows the rmfa holder and he has been trying to snab one for a long time. But he cannot trap in the park boundary. They generally stay in the lake. Yep its eating the fish.

I guess that's why I didn't even get a nibble. The otter has been living large.
