Default Has science finally found a way to use CO2 safely? Maybe.

At least some experimental level, scientists have been able to change co2 into an environmentally friendly fuel, which ends up in zero emissions when used.

Of course, like anything else, just because they can do it in the lab does not mean that it can be produced economically and become viable. It is interesting to see that the scientist are from China, which is suffering significantly from its pollution and is contributing a significant amount of co2.

But it doesn't say what th byproduct of using Formate as a fuel would be. Would it not be HOH and CO2?

If you read the article, formate is not the fuel but the byproduct.

On the meantime, here is the abstract:

A new material made from microscopic layers of cobalt can convert carbon dioxide gas into formate - a fuel that can be burned with no toxic byproducts and used as a clean energy source.

Did you read the article?

I say ban all beer and carbonated beverages and fix the CO2 problem.

Yup, read it, and misread it. Oops, regardless, it'll be interesting to see if they can produce it in commercially significant quantities.

So, how much carbon is produced in refining the cobalt.
