Youth/Adult Trap Shooting Fun League Calgary
I have had preliminary talks with Calgary Firearms Centre (AHEIA) about starting a "Youth/Adult" fun trap league. No experience required, come out have fun and learn how to shoot trap as well as meet other like minded people.
This is only in initial discussions and looking to see if there would be enough interest to further pursue developing this.
Looking at Wednesday evening from 1700-1900 for May & June.
There will be a "fee" for the League that will include the rental of shotguns if you do not have your own. The fee amount has not been confirmed yet. At this point it has not been confirmed if there will be a minimum age limit.
There will be coaches on site to assist and ensure that everyone has a safe and fun evening of shooting.
Let me know if you would be interested in something like this.

Absolutely interested. I would never be bold enough to join a league of "real" shooters with their spanish O/U's. I'd be totally embarrassed. But a fun league of hackers, sure.

Again, depending on age limits, yes.
5-7pm might be a little early for quite a few people as well. Considering traffic in this city and how early that is and how late people work. If I'm working in Calgary, it's not a big deal for me personally. Right now I'm working in Medicine Hat and my wife doesn't have a valid PAL so getting my son there with his shotgun also poses a problem, but that's my issue to deal with.

That that right there is funny. I don't think that I have ever seen a serious shooter with a Spanish O/U.

Seen more than a few hood shooters using Spanish live pigeon guns on the line over the years but they were all SxS guns .
Any O/U I have seen out of Spain ( owned 5 over the years ) has been s cheaper made field gun.
I'm sure they are made however .
Italians? THAT is a different story!!

Yup
On a casual basis I'd be very interested. I live in SW Calgary and can make most evenings work.
Keep me posted.

Chances are you will run into a few "real " shooters at these things as well, which could be a good thing if a person had questions- I know very few that are so high on themselves that they will not help out someone.
That type of person is out there however , no matter what sport!

The serious shooters that I have met tend to shoot Italian ,German, Japanese, American and other shotguns , but as you say, the Spanish O/U shotguns tend to be lower level guns. On the other hand, the Spanish are well known for making quality SxS shotguns. I am expecting a 28 gauge Spanish SxS in a month or so.

OK OK guys. My statement clearly illustrates how little I know about high end trap guns! LOL B guns it is then. Still, intimidating for me with my little Weatherby 20ga and hitting 12 out of 20!

There is only one way to get better!
Besides, I don't think I have seen anyone look down on someone who was shooting a cheaper gun than they were, most people are just not like that.
Talking to these better shooters however, may just give you a bit more confidence and I'm sure they will help you out if asked!

The quickest way to improve your scores would be to shoot all five stations, which total 25 targets.

Most people could care less what you shoot. As long as you don't violate the range safety rules, you don't make a habit of activating the voice operated target thrower by talking or making noise when it isn't your turn to shoot, and the squad isn't always waiting for you when it;s your turn to shoot, you should never have an issue.

This, absolutely. I've learned a TON from more experienced shooters. Some advice was requested, some was offered voluntarily, but it was all appreciated.
Even the basic stuff like which clay to shoot first while shooting doubles. Little things I may not have thought of make a big difference. This is one of many advantages to going to events like this one

When my son and I went out the first time we jumped in with a couple of experienced guys. All decked out in well worn gear, nice shotguns, the whole works. Here we were with hoodies, muffs, and a couple of cheap 870's. We did set off a few clays early just by pumping the actions of our guns, talked a bit to loud once or twice, but we also made it VERY clear that we had never been to the range before.
Those two guys were great. Helped us out, gave us tips, were patient if we weren't ready exactly when we should have been, etc. We tried to be as non-new as we could but guess what, we were new. Everybody started there and it's nice to have that little bit of help and direction in the proper and accepted etiquette as well.

I really hope that you guys make it happen, it's great to get out, shooting, but it's just that much better when you can get youth shooters involved.

Thanks Elk. I am pretty sure we can put something together. You are correct. I love getting out with my kids.
