Any luck today, boys and girls?
I went out for a couple of hours, but spend most of the time talking to land owners. Maybe walked for an hour, tops. No sheds for me again. The best I got was this:
But time was well spent since I met a few good people, especially one great guy who gave me permission to hunt his property, even though I did not ask for it. Apparently, this permission is also exclusive, i.e. I am the only one who has it. That was quite a surprise since it's a beautiful field, where I saw elk, mules and whitetails on numerous occasions previously and it borders crown land on two sides. So I am pretty happy about that, though I do not really hunt private land for big game. Another benefit of shed hunting

I was out east of Red Deeer today and did a four hour walk. Still alot of snow, but I had the time. Weird thing is, I saw a 2 1/2 year old moose still packing antlers. This is my latest to ever see a moose with horns. My first white tail sheds were found on Jan 1st. Crazy year for all of us shed hunters.

Thanks! He's big enough now that he's no longer on my back in a pack, makes it less of a work out for me! Was a fun afternoon with him!

I was out yesterday for a 5 hr walk. Struck out. And this was in the field with the 72 deer. Trail cam had 1944 pictures in 2 weeks on a 1 picture 2 min delay.
Alot of bucks still carrying but had the first one show up with 1 antler on the 12th and more popped up soon after
Im sure there are some sheds in the field but half of it is under 2 feet of water and the canola stalks make it very difficult.
The niciest buck of the bunch leaves the property with a full rack and returns 33 mins later with no rack at all! Frustrating.
I secured a primo mulee property yesterday though which should be amazing.
Out today but this time a different property and my three yr old on mt back.

Saw a herd of about 70 elk yesterday...there was a bachelor group of 11 bulls near it (1/2 mile)...all still had their antlers on their heads.

To be fair, we still have plenty of snow at some places. Went over a knee deep a few times today. Many fields are more or less clear on the sunny sides though.
I also noticed that coyotes became pretty active in the field I had highest hopes for. Less deer on the field too, I am assuming due to coyote activity and more food readily available due to other fields loosing snow cover. So over the weekend, I got permissions to walk on all surrounding fields. All but one and that one is the "main deer highway". Someone else got dibs on it three days before I showed up I wonder why that guy did not ask the other land owners about their fields
Another thing I noticed is that lately a very big dog from the neighbouring property walks around all over "my" field. I haven't noticed it before. Could the devil be stealing my sheds, I wonder?

Are you guys seeing many shedded mulies now? I secured some new permission on primo mulee territory holding a ton of deer. Only really get one crack at shed hunting it. need to time this one just right.

I have noticed they started shedding "massively" a couple of weeks ago. Still quite a few still carrying. I have also noticed they are now more spread out on different fields rather than any particular ones. Bucks became more cautious as well, staying in the bush until later in the dark. On one field, where I saw 10 to 20 different bucks in one evening, I now see 5 at best. That's in 52x's zones.
Also saw a decent size herd of elk the other day. None had their antlers on. Anyone found anything from an elk yet?

Got out this morning for a couple of hours with my 2 year old "shed" lab. Found 5, including 2 good mulie sheds.
I was most impressed that he sniffed out a spiker antler out of the shin deep alfalfa. There's no question you find way more antlers with a trained dog!

You Boys are doing well...Keep it up . Sure enjoying the pics.
I went out to check on a couple trail cams the other night when i spotted a Muley.
So up comes the Bino's checking it to see if it was a Buck that may have dropped , when i spotted and Antler. I went to pick it up when i spotted another , then another .....got 8 in total when i was just going out for a quick hike before the sun went down..
I spoteed a few more Bucks after this , smaller and still carrying both sides...cant wait to get out again..

Here's what we have found on our land so far. Lots of snow so hopefully we will get some more and cover the neighbors land as well. P1040350 (2) (640x480).jpg

Got within probably 50 yards of a small bull moose last night and he was not packing. Going back this week to try and find his sides!
