If you had one day only
To catch a sturgeon with no boat would it be:
A) NSR
B) lower Bow
C) lower red deer
D) lower oldman
E) SSR between Lethbridge and the Hat
Or
F) SSR between the hat and sask border
What would you fish?

I'd be hitting up Wayne Christie and ask him to take me out for sturgeon on the SSR
Edit:
I just noticed the part about "no boat"..... I'd still be hitting up Wayne

I do not feel qualified to answer that question as I have only fished the NSR and very few times at that. Maybe 6 times? Each time I targeted walleye and have caught more sturgeon than walleye? First outing(June 2013) I caught 10 sturgeon, 1 walleye and a 14" goldeye in about 4 hours of fishing , two of the sturgeon were tagged. I couldn't read the numbers on one tag but the other I could and reported it. I hadn't caught a tagged fish since the 80's on Lake Nip****ing.

Lloydminster.....SK side. I am about 30 minutes from a section of the river known to hold good numbers of sturgeon in June according to the biologist I reported my tag too. Incidentally it was where I caught those 10 on my first outing. Pure luck is all.

I haven't gone back there in about two years as I finally located a decent walleye hole. Still though I have caught one or two small sturgeon (3-4lbs) as incidentals at that walleye hole. I haven't tried yet but was told by a reputable source there are some good sized sturgeon to be had at the Edam ferry crossing. May have to try it one of these days.

NSR on the east side of the city is pretty good for sturgeon.

The biologist I spoke with told me they travel over 950 kms to reach their spawning areas. If memory serves he said they go all the way to some dam in Manitoba from as far as west of Leduc.

If you go to the Paynton ferry crossing, where the ferry lands on the south side, about 100 or 150 feet to the north east, is 20 feet of water.

Thanks and yes I should have corrected my post to read Paynton.

I would think the sturgeon do go above the Genesee bridge. I have seen them caught a few miles above the bridge. They probably run as far as Drayton. Above there the river is transitioning to a cold water stream.

G) None of the above
I'd prefer the Columbia River somewhere between Astoria, OR and Portland, OR
Almost did this year, will set aside a day or two to fish Sturgeon there on the next trip south for sure

Seems a fair bit of travel when you have one day only as OP indicated!
I'm guessing it's a 12+ hour drive, so you would only get there and have to turn around. No fishies for you!
Cheers

The OP didn't specify which day so I'll pick one of the days I spend in the area visiting my daughter and grandson every year..........if that's ok with you?
I almost went this year but spent all my time paintballing with my teenage grandson (yeah, I paid for it...LOL) and only crossed the river quickly twice, once coming, once going. I'm seriously considering going sturgeon fishing next year. Mind you, rather than sit on the shore, I'll probably do the guided fishing thing and increase my chances. If the fishery is open to keeping one that is the best chance I'll have of getting one.

Sorry there's no way nsr/ssr sturgeon could get through deifenbaker dam , Codette lake or Tobin dams and return.

Kind of a corollary to this thread -- how are water levels along the SSR? Seems like everywhere down south is seeing really low levels right now. We're going to be down around Lethbridge, travelling toward Med Hat, and thinking about tossing a line into the SSR along the way. Hoping things aren't bone dry and there's still some fishable areas!
