Default Win card question

I know a senior doesn’t need a license for fishing. But do they still need a win card? My mother who has not fished since she was in her 20’s wants to go ice fishing once before she is unable to.

In my opinion no. A WIN card is used to purchase hunting and fishing license, and to enter hunting draws.... if she isn't doing any of those, I don't see why she would need a WIN card. That's my opinion only though..

I agree, so long as she carries ID that can prove her age, I would think that should suffice. Just looked at regs and other than "No license required" listed in the table, I can't see any other statements about it. Unless she wants to get tags, in which case she would need a WIN card. Good luck to your Mom, hope she has a good time!!

If your worried just take her out on the free fishing weekend, February 17. But, no she doesn’t need a WIN card.

When I turned 65 I phoned F & W to ask and no you do not need a WIN card unless you are entering draws etc.

That is correct. No Win or License required only need a Win if you are getting tags.

Above is correct. Only if you wanted a walleye draw. But even though she cannot do the walleye draw without the WIN, she is still entitled to a limit of fish that are not on a draw system, as are kids under 16 both without licenses.

Hopefully she gets some! Good luck!
