NAFA Coyotes this week
Okay, so she's comin' close now.. thought I'd re-post since Marty's Order of Sale Thread a few weeks back.
(Then) it was shaping up for a 70,000 coyote sale. (Now) just checking the NAFA site Order of sale numbers, looks like it only climbed to 92,600+/- rather than the typical 120,000+ the last few years.
Obviously everybody's talking in the other threads about grades, and lack there-of on some coyotes sent, but what's the opinions on that regarding these lower than expected numbers to auction?? ...maybe are still gonna be good cheques by the time the smoke clears with lower sale-numbers.
If I'm seeing right (& correct me if I'm wrong) but tomorrow the 16th looks to be our sale day

Yup, tomorrow is the big day.
With the later Last Receiving Date for the first auction I'm not surprised by the larger number of pelts in the Feb auction. A lot of those pelts would have ended up in the second auction last year. I am a little surprised at the number of pelts in this auction though. It seems to me that there are about 40K more coyote pelts this year than last.......IF my numbers are accurate.
2017
Feb - 32,220
May - 94,269
Total - 126,489
2018
Feb - 73,558
May - 92,641
Total - 166,199

Dave higher recent coyote pelt prices probably attracted lot of Eastern and American dogs to your higher yearly total.

Just a question about sale order why do they place some of the SEL & I * grades further down in the sale? Is to keep the buyer at the tables?

You could be right, Ed. I only compared with last year so it's not enough info to establish any trends. I'm thinking that a fella would have to look at the past 4 or 5 years in order to determine anything. Lots has changed like the elimination of the September auction and the later Last Receiving Dates that effected individual auctions now. A guy would have to look at the total number of coyotes annually now I think. As long as there's strong demand I'm happy.

The ones at the top are 1-2 and the ones farther down are 3-4. I even have one farther down from there that graded semi.
If I remember correctly some of my *I 3-4 sold for more than some of my *I 1-2. I'd have to look but I think that the colour of the pelts helped in that regard (ie. *I 1-2 DBR vs *I 3-4 MED).
EDIT - Yup, same colour though.
137115 XL-LGE *I DBR 1-2 1 138.00
137324 XL-LGE *I DBR 3-4 1 144.00

Not unusual at an auction for anything that the price can see a bump later in the sale as all it takes is 2 buyers with an order to fill and as the available numbers dwindle they can get a little antsy.

Well Dave can you tell me the difference between lot 343605 and lot 343924 other than one lot went for 140 and the other was at 96. It looks to me like they graded exactly the same but one lot was stolen compared to the other.

I had 12 coyotes in this sale and averaged $103.25, which works out to around $132.00 CAD. I'm good with that.

I averaged US$27 this auction.....................on my DG2 and lower graded pelts.
My season average for the two auctions was +20% higher than last year and the highest ever. Despite the large number of Damaged pelts in this auction for whatever reason, I have no complaints. Very happy.

I had two that were graded DG3. Like you, I have no idea why? I got $36 for one and $27 for the other. Worst one after that was $88, everything else was over $100. Good thing I had a few go for $140 or my average would have been below $100US.

Buy back question.
Rookie question. I had 3 that did not sell. Said it was a buy back. They were graded 1-2. What’s the scoop with buy back?

They didn't like the price they were going to get so they held them back (bought back). No problem, they'll just go into the next auction.

I have two that didn't sell as well. Lots 638 and 641. I'm not sure what happened with those but I'm hoping that they sell Private Treaty. Otherwise, like Tonnage said they'll go in the next auction.

Ya I have one in 343639. I've never quite understood the private treaty thing.....So here's the way I understand it....There's no opening bid at what they think it should be (say $120 in this case) so they "buy back." Then after the sale someone comes along and says, "Changed my mind, can I buy private treaty for $135?"
Is that the way it works?

Cam that sums it up.
Might be the buyer needed a few more pelts to finish their order. I find that the treaty prices are generally fair and at or above pelt prices in the grade.

Thanks for the replies. I see they actually sold today. Average was higher on these final 3 then the regular sale.

My last two Yotes sold Private Treaty as well. The Yotes in that string sold for $128 at auction and I got $126 and $120 via Private Treaty. I’d rather that they sold for $10 less than go unsold so it’s all good.

So did lot 639 sell? Catalog says bought back, but didnt know if there was somewhere else to check private treaty sales.

Go into your account and click on Coyotes. Click on download date on your coyote letting number page and a spreadsheet will open. Look for the 639 lotting number on there and it’ll show what they sold for in the far right column.
I didn’t have one in that lot so it doesn’t show on my spreadsheet.

The heavy coyotes all ended up selling, in case anybody didn't catch it. Re-check your averages if you haven't in the past few days and had unsold coyotes.
Fox... well that's a whole other story. The Lynx did poorly too.
