If not find a rifle that fits and buy it in 7-08.
Ammo wont be a problem and as much as it is a good round I wouldnt want to be trying to find 280 cases let alone fire form.
keep it simple.
You don’t have to fire form brass for the .280 Rem cartridge.

A light weight 7mm-08 may hit you harder than a medium weight
.280 Rem.

The .280 Rem will be a better choice, in my opinion if you are wanting to load
heavier bullets.

I have used a .280 for years and had great success with it.

If I had to choose one or the other, it would be the .280. You can say what you want but the .280 develops greater velocities than the 7mm-08.

The 7mm-08 is not the equal of the .280 Rem when it comes to velocity, nor could it be. Just like a .280 Rem will never be a 7mm Rem. Mag. They are what they are, and they each have their limitations.

Lapua brass and Reloader 17 really makes the 7mm-08 perform.

According to Winchester's website, 280 Rem is only offered in Mod 70 Super Grade. (24" barrel)
I think you can get some X Bolts models in 280 Rem.

They made them in a featherweight with a 22” barrel, he might be referring to a used rifle.

Sometimes you just don’t know how to respond... wow.
I do believe you do don’t know how to respond. That’s just another thing to add to the list.
Wow indeed.
Fit has a huge effect on felt recoil. One .270 that doesn’t fit well will feel like it kicks a lot harder than another .270 that fits well.
Since the difference between .270 and .280 is only 0.007”, it’s the same concept. Therefore a .280 in a good fitting rifle will feel a lot better wrt recoil than a .270 will feel if shooting a poorly fitting rifle.
Pretty standard stuff.

Sorry it was a bit confusing for you.

The point of the post is the wife is in need of a proper fitting rifle with lower recoil.
I dare say any standard or featherweight 270, 280, or 3006 will be as pleasant to shoot as a 7-08 for any smaller framed shooter.
The discussion of having heavier bullets in the 280 is moot if the shooter is recoil sensitive.

7mm-08 with 145gr. Speer bt bullet is all you need for anything..except maybe big bad mad bears.
Don't over think it, buy the rifle that FITS her, forget about a couple hundred feet per second, the critter on the receiving end will never know the difference.
